To put poly cotton sheets on the bed as my guests have a 5 week old baby?

My disclaimer is that I haven't had any children so I honestly don't know. And so sorry if it offends anyone- I genuinely want to know!

I run a luxury holiday cottage, advertised as a romantic bolthole for couples. A couple booked to come to a wedding around 4 months ago.

I have very expensive Egyptian cotton linen. It was a mistake as it stains very easily with bodily fluids of the romantic persuasion...

Anyhow, I have some emergency, brand new poly cotton linen. When it's ironed it passes for cotton- it is from a hotel linen company.

I want to use it as I am assuming they will sleep with the baby and change the baby on the bed. I told them there was no room for a cot or anything in the bedroom.

Am I being horrible? It is just plain pale grey so doesn't look fancy at all.

Also, should I offer them the travel cot? I assumed a new born couldn't use that but could be wrong.

Thanks.

If you allow children at the other rental could you buy a changing mat? It’s probably only about £5-10 but so much more reliable that the tiny one you get with changing bags.

It would be kind to leave a spare set of bedding there. They might still be at the point where you change for a sick.

I’m not a princess so wouldn’t notice/care about polycotton. I think £80 is good for a cottage, not hugely expensive.

IncrediblySadToo · 25/04/2019 21:37

What are you doing that you can’t get stains out of Egyptian Cotton sheets? Use Dr Beckmans Whitener & Stain Removal sachets - I haven’t has anything on the sheets they don’t sort out. Plus even if there is a stain on fabric, leave it out on the line a couple of days and it’ll go.

They’re LESS likely to make a mess of your sheets than your average couple because they’ll be exhausted after being at a wedding with a 5 week old baby. Your average 5 week old baby doesn’t make much mess.

Mmmmm I can smell the newness from here. I wonder if they’d like a babysitter 🤣

Sorry I don’t know the answer but me and my partner are always looking for luxury cottages and similar to stay in, is it allowed on here to PM me a link to your website or something?

Babies wear nappies so they don't wee or poo in the bed.
Ask them to use the bathroom for nappy changing, which they probably would do anyway.

MuddyMoose · 25/04/2019 21:53

From personal experience, sleep deprived new parents aren't going to care what sheet (or colour) they sleep on. They will probably just be grateful to get into a freshly made bed.

I'd offer the travel cot & let them decide if they want to cosleep or use it.

MuddyMoose · 25/04/2019 21:54

@3in4years babies definitely do wee & poo in the bed. Nappies have a habit of leaking & also accidents happen during changing especially if it's a born with no aim Grin

MuddyMoose · 25/04/2019 21:54

Boy* not born 🙄

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2019 21:58

It's not luxury if it doesn't have luxury bed linen. That's exactly the reason people pay more ,the details like good bed sheets.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2019 21:59

And I bet I could tell the difference,I hate anything that isn't 100% cotton.

EggsAgain · 25/04/2019 22:03

If I was the new mum, I would worry about leaking lochia, milk, and / or post birth sweats on your lovely sheets and would love the option of easily washable pokycotton instead of the high thread count sheets.

whatisheupto · 25/04/2019 22:09

I have to say I cannot stand polycotton. Feels scratchy and squeaky. And I am happy to 'rough it' camping etc, so not a princess! But I would feel disappointed. I can't really imagine anything is going to happen that won't come out in the wash. And I imagine they will bring a moses basket. Just give them the usual sheets!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/04/2019 22:13

Wash the nice linen on 90 and bung in some napisan-works a treat.

I loathe poly cotton.
Soem ppl are much more sensitive to fabric etc so not everyone will care but I would...

ScrimshawTheSecond · 25/04/2019 22:14

I'd be really ew at polycotton.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 25/04/2019 22:15

Can you ask them?!

AlaskanOilBaron · 25/04/2019 22:17

Polycotton is grim.

What colour are these sheets? Not sure how sex can stain white. Confused.

AlaskanOilBaron · 25/04/2019 22:17

Just ask them.

ilovesooty · 25/04/2019 22:19

As long as they're clean I wouldn't even notice what sheets on my bed were made from.

whyohwhyowhydididoit · 25/04/2019 22:20

I would not sleep well in polycotton and would think I was getting second rate not luxury.

And god knows what you are doing wrong if you cannot get pure cotton clean. I had a home birth on cotton sheets and although I was fully prepared to bin them afterwards a good long soak in water and Miltons then a hot wash had them looking like new again. And before anyone says anything, I didn’t wash them. DH was in charge of laundry that week.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2019 22:20

Can you ask them?!

You really don't need to OP. Put what you normally use on the bed. Surely you can remove stains? Use Vanish Gold then run under warm tap water and a bio detergent.

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/04/2019 22:21

I can tell polycotton from Egyptian cotton, it’s nowhere near as nice ,

Persil bio and a hygiene wash would have got rid of any stains from a previous guest

And , if it’s adults only , why are you accepting an infant ?

nonevernotever · 25/04/2019 22:25

Another saying offer a choice - luxury with possible cleaning charge for baby stains or new pkkycotton

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 25/04/2019 22:36

£80 a night is cheaper than a premier Inn! Put whatever you like on the bed and provide nothing for the baby, you advertise as adult only and they are aware you are already making an exception for them, they will probably bring a Moses basket or pram carry cot. If they stain anything charge them as you would anyone else I say this as someone with a small baby.

Movinghouseatlast · 25/04/2019 22:36

I don't advertise luxury linen but I do have it on the beds! I don't charge luxury prices.

I have put my own cotton, but not Egyptian high thread count, as a compromise. I have put darker towels out though!

bouncydog · 25/04/2019 22:39

If you’re advertising as luxury then bedding should be pristine high thread count white Egyptian cotton and definitely no stains! Poly cotton is awful and you can definitely tell the difference. I would get a changing mat and provide a supply of towels to lay baby on. They will probably bring a Moses basket with them for baby to sleep in. If you have a travel cot you could offer but a 5 week old will find it much too big I would have thought.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 25/04/2019 22:43

Anyone paying £80 a night for two adults and a baby in nice quality accommodation, has no grounds to complain about thread count. Cheap as chips. Where I live the council use old seafront B&Bs as emergency/homeless accommodation. They are grim, and more than £80 a night
