To ask how often you change your baby’s nappy?

With my eldest I’m sure I was changing him constantly. Second baby, often reoccupied with the toddler, I’m aware it’s much less frequently. So made me think- how often are most people changing baby nappies?

DD is 5 weeks and there are no issues with nappy rash. She is changed immediately if she poo’s, and then probably every 2 hours or so as a freshen up. Toddler is again immediately following a poo but I do it whenever it seems to be heading down to his knees as he hates it being done!

I only change DD when she has done a poo or after a nap/feed. She has never had a problem with nappy rash though.

Saying that though we are moving over to reusable nappies in summer (to avoid tumble drying!) so everything might change.

Every 4 hours ish. Every two hours is so unnecessary.

Happyspud · 26/04/2019 14:31

When it’s dirty! Shocked at the landfill people are creating with unnecessary nappy changes.

Every 2 hours for a 2 year old?! Utter madness!

DC4 is 15 months, I change her in a morning, after lunch/before her nap, around 3:30/4pm and then a fresh nappy for bed

Some days if it doesn’t feel too wet I’ll skip the 3:30 change - I’m very conscious about how many of my children’s nappies are sitting in landfill and feel increasingly awful about it

After every feed or when poo'd which ever comes first! I also had a new born with a toddler running around as was definitely not quite as 'on it' with the 2nd!

Have to say I agree with this.

DD is 18 months and we probably only use 4/5 nappies a day.

It might have been different back in the day when everyone used terry nappies or unreliable disposables, but now even budget brands are super adsorbent and feel dry against their skin even after a wee.

Fair enough if dc is prone to nappy rash, but every two hours for a toddler is just ridiculous under normal circumstances.

As a newborn it was every couple of hours. He's now 8 months old and I do it about every 4 hours or so after a bottle plus whenever he poos

Haffiana · 26/04/2019 15:37

Wow. People have an 'every 2 hours' rule for this?

At least hourly with my newly 2yo atm. He drinks and wees loads!
He’s my second child (first boy) and I’ve found from the beginning that he wetted through his nappies quicker.

CecilyP · 26/04/2019 15:53

Yes, my routine with a toddler was much the same as Midnight's, so generally about 4 a day with the odd extra one if a nappy was soiled not long after changing. So got through a pack of 60 in a fortnight. This was back in the day though I did use disposables.

With a new born it is slightly different because they poo pretty frequently. I know I used a complete pack of 30 in the 3 days after coming out of hospital but after that settled down to about 6 or 7 a day.

kaytee87 · 26/04/2019 15:54

When ds was a newborn he seemed to poo after every feed so about every 2 hours.

Drogosnextwife · 26/04/2019 16:01

I'm a childminder and I have 3 in nappies most days so I change a nappy approximately every 30 mins 😂,

Depends how wet they are, I don't like they kids having soggy nappies because I can only imagine it's annoying so I change them every couple of hours, obviously straight away for poos. I have 2 kids who can poo up to 10 times a day each though so I wasnt even exaggerating with every 30 mins.

Happyspud · 26/04/2019 16:31

I have to laugh at people saying they change nappies because they are afraid baby might be a but uncomfortable.

Have you ever met a baby?? They are not known for staying quiet about anything annoying them at all! You think they are just sucking it up and pretending they are happy😂😂

Drogosnextwife · 26/04/2019 17:31

Happyspud

The 2 year old I look after would happily run around in nappies down to their knees is they were busy playing.

Happyspud · 27/04/2019 09:38

My point exactly. These children are not suffering, despite the wet nappies! Nappies are designed to handle wetting overnight.
