Potty training. Sigh

There has to be a better way than bumble-fucking my way through antibacterial wipes and spray and gloves and dcs wiggly pooey butt and a nappybag and baby wipes for that?

Looking forward to progressing to the toilet, but in the meantime...suggestions??

If your DP is the one who has strong feelings, he must come up with the way to deal with it. It may be that means bagging up clothing for him to deal with later, but if that's what he wants, that's fair.

What's not fair is if he refuses to let you wash dirty clothing, and won't deal with it.

NCforthis2019 · 25/04/2019 23:33

You throw away pants because they have poop on them?! How much Waste must you have!

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 25/04/2019 23:35

My two boys were potty trained just after their second birthday, they did it themselves, we didn’t do anything. Wanting to sit on the big toilet like daddy- which they could only do if they didn’t wee and poo everywhere. Bingo, that was out training. But we were so lucky with that. Exdp was potty trained at his first birthday. His mum blames it on being the youngest of numerous brothers and sisters and he copied them- but also 2 others were around that age too, maybe it’s genetics, who knows?

But each child is different. It’s not a competition. It’s when the child is ready that’s matters. If you are having this many accidents he’s obviously not ready yet. How old is he?

BenjiB · 25/04/2019 23:35

I never potty trained either of my younger two. Just waited until they asked and never had any accidents. Also never had a potty. Just straight to the toilet.

CatFaceCats · 25/04/2019 23:38

Waited until they were ready - have never cleaned up a poo or pee accident. Well except night time mishaps and the time one had explosive dirhorrea (sp) for a week and it would run out the nappy!

Xmasbaby11 · 25/04/2019 23:38

Never actually had any poo accidents with my 2 dd probably as they toilet trained late (3). Occasional dirty knickers when not wiped properly which I would scrape, soak and wash. Never had to throw away any underwear. They never had problems with leaky nappies either (wore pampers). However dd2 was very pukey until she was 1, so dealt with my fair share of bodily fluids!

Fiveredbricks · 25/04/2019 23:39

Oh ffs sake @Soubriquet the washing machine is litterally there to wash shit out of clothes. Litteral shit. How grim you find it easier to just throw clothes away.

BingandFlop2019 · 25/04/2019 23:43

@Soubriquet Just put some disinfectant in the drum with the clothes and then and an empty cycle of just disinfectant afterwards if you realllllly are squeamish. Sounds like your DH has issues surrounding faeces

LavaLampLover · 26/04/2019 02:54

Only ever used gloves with my eldest who had severe chronic constipation and soiling issues where by the medication for it made it stink so badly that the smell just didn't come off your hands. Was like that scene from the big of eternal stench in The Labyrinth - don't touch the bog!

Soubriquet · 26/04/2019 08:03

When they were babies, we never really had a poonami...apart from once

Child in shower, clothes in bin

Sux2buthen · 26/04/2019 13:53

@NCforthis2019 none so far! But I would throw them away 100%

Mamabear12 · 26/04/2019 13:59

Soubriquet I just threw out any poop underwear...but my children learned fast and I think had a couple of poop accidents if that!

bringthethunder · 26/04/2019 14:07

I'm with soubriquet on this one. My eldest had a bowel condition from birth to around aged 5, causing him to "hold" his poos and subsequently soil himself on a regular basis. Honestly, come year 2 into "big boy pants" I could not bear the scraping/washing cycle of sh!t-encrusted pants any longer. More often than not, I binned them and bought new, cheap multi packs with my weekly shop. Not economically, financially or environmentally advisable but life is short and not designed to be spent on poo-duty for majority of the day for several long years Smile

smurfy2015 · 26/04/2019 14:18

I recommend red incontinence bags, they tied up at the top with the attached strip, put into the machine and when in the machine the hot water will melt the strip and wash it all, no touching.

If needed for the washing machine add some disinfectant and hottest cycle.

For the child, if it's a poonami, into the shower and washes the bottom half down. Dry child and redress.

For the shower/bath if needed add disinfectant afterwards.

SilentSister · 26/04/2019 14:18

Never used a potty either, just attached one of those small loo hole things to the loo seat. Also lucky enough that they were both ready in the summer months, so could run around with dresses and no knickers on. My DD's trained pretty young, around 14 months, but I was very fortunate they were always on the constipated side, so only ever had to pick up a couple of nuggets when they didn't get to the loo fast enough Grin.

Personally I find scraping half eaten mouse bodies off the floor with my fingernails, courtesy of the cat, much worse than an odd poo.
