With 2 kids under 4 and a lazy partner as well as ft work cleaning is giving me the rage. Does anyone get a cleaner in more than twice a week? I am seriously considering Monday Wednesday and Friday. To go through the ever growing pile of laundry as well.

If that’s what it takes to keep your family ticking over and give you precious weekend time together then do it.

We’ve used various options over the years including au pair and cleaner when DC’s little, cleaner 3x/week (11hrs on total)once we’d stopped using au pairs. For the last few years cleaner once a week for 6 hrs plus sending the ironing out. Now DC’s have both left home the cleaner still does 6 hours but that includes ironing too.

Your needs will change as your family’s life changes so just do what works for you. Outsource any job you don’t like or isn’t adding value is my motto!

mrsmotzart your friend is not fair on the cleaner! My cleaner has always had strict instructions that she must shut the door on the kids bedrooms if they are too disgusting - no way would I expect a cleaner to pick up after lazy teens!

I have 3 hours twice a week, and it is bliss. On Wednesdays she cleans, and Fridays is the in depth tidying (for instance she keeps on top of the kitchen cupboards, bookshelves, airing cupboard), bed changing and anything else day.
We had 3 hours a week for years, but since adding the second visit, everything has been sooooo much better as nothing mounts up or is hanging over us as a job that must be done.

I have one 7 days a week, 4-5 hours a day.

She is fabulous if I do say so myself Wink

Seriously though, I've always loved cleaning and said that even if I won the lotto I wouldn't get a cleaner. That was until I got fibromyalgia and I really struggle as also have OCD.

If I could afford it I would definitely have a cleaner 3 days a week. Go for it op :)

I have one 5 days a week but not in the uk now. When I was there I had one 3 times a week. Full days. We both decided that it was an expense we were very happy to include as part of our budget. DH and I both like a deep cleaned home, and it just frees up so much of our time and theres no frustration about things getting done.

Yanbu op, if you can afford it then go for it!.

I worked out it would cost us about £10k to have the following staff based on local prices:

2h cleaner a week - £1150
2h PA a week - £2200
All laundry/housekeeping - £1300
Occasional gardening/DIY support (say alternate fortnights for each for 2h) - £2080

Plus materials for all the above.

I mean, it's not pennies, but it's a lot less than you'd think for those services (I'd put having all that in the millionaire bracket rather than the 100k bracket if you see what I mean!).

Saldy I've only convinced DH of the cleaner.

As long as it’s not only you paying for it. You might have to address your lazy and disrespectful partner, too.

They are often called housekeeper, why wouldn’t you if that’s what you want ?

crosspelican · 25/04/2019 12:08

Back in the day a lot of people had a "daily" - a cleaner who came in every DAY to tidy up, make the beds, sort the kitchen and put on lunch or dinner for you before she left. Can you imagine the utter LUXURY of that? I can't think of anything I would like more, to be honest.

What Macandcheese has sounds like heaven.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/04/2019 12:09

How dirty are some of your houses? Shock

Theninjawhinger · 25/04/2019 12:14

A lot of my friends have a housekeeper who helps with childcare / admin tasks as well. They are the linchpin of many families! Do it!

MrsMozartMkII · 25/04/2019 16:48

nowahousewife what can I say. It's the way they've all done it for many many years.

Our cleaner was grand. She would turn her hand to anything asked of her, including rounding up horses.

SecretWitch · 25/04/2019 16:53

My cleaner comes once a week. I would have her more but she is fully booked! She has been with us for 10 years and has a free hand to change things, rearrange things, do whatever she sees fit.

nowahousewife 11 hours a week?! How big is your house?
