to ask if anyone has a weighted blanket and if so do they really help you sleep?

Posting here for traffic. I have a lifelong sleep disorder and lie awake for hours most nights, even when I am exhausted, I never seem to actually feel sleepy.

A number of people have recommended weighted blankets, and as I do seem to find it a little easier to get sleepy under heavy duvets I am wondering if a weighted blanket might be a worthwhile investment. So expensive though, I don't mind that if it works, but I keep wondering if being under a heavy blanket might might make me feel trapped or pinned down, so to speak? So I'm really unsure, think I need to hear a few first-hand accounts as to what they are like...

It'd be great to hear experiences if anyone has any to share - thanks in advance!

DameDiazapamTheDramaQueen:

I would go to sleep at 9pm but I would wake up at 4am but I didn't get seven hours of sleep. I was waking up several times during the night. It doesn't mean that I would wake up and go back to sleep right away, it would take me at least another 45 minutes to drop off only to be awoken again a little while later. I was averaging four hours of broken sleep a night.

I find it helps...somewhat. Not a miracle cure, but average sleep somewhat improved.

If you have access to a Costco, they sell big king size super soft plush fleece blankets that are quite heavy. In store they’re about £16 so probably a bit more than that online.

I sleep quite well with it over the duvet and because it is so wide it pulls down on you. The only downside is when dh gets hot so I then get all his share puked up on me which definitely becomes too hot and heavy!

But they are great quality, beautifully soft and snuggly and would be a great cheap way to test a weighted blanket out as it’s big enough to fold in half to get a double weight on you if wanted. Even if it doesn’t work, it’s great for using as a massive throw - I have several over the years as the dc wanted their own, they got fought over in the lounge etc etc so we got more and more.

I tried one for the first time last night, I fell asleep much quicker than I usually do and I only woke up twice which is great for me and fell back asleep fast, I found the weight quite comforting too. I’d definitely try one from a company that does a money back guarantee if you can.
