To ask about Ryanair bag policy

I have travelled with them quite a lot in the past, always allowed one small cabin bag. Just found out that's all changed. Now you're only allowed a small ruck sack type bag that can fit under the seat. Has anyone travelled recently with them. Just wondered how strictly enforced it is. Thanks in advance.

At the next stage of booking you can add the bigger hand luggage bag - was £8 each way when I booked last month

It is strictly enforced. Your allowance will depend on what you've booked, the old size bag is still allowed if you book priority (and is not small for a cabin bag!).

I ponied up for the "larger" cabin allowance and tbh the kids rucksacks/my handbag fitted fine in the tiny pod under the seat in front so prob could have got away without paying extra. Honestly the size of the free allowance is pathetic. Literally the size of a packed lunch box.

They're very strict about it. I'd pay for extra baggage if you're taking more than their limit.

Oh damn, ive already checked in online, too late to upgrade now. Sad

Log back in to your booking, it might still let you add priority.

If not, I find if you hang back from the queue and wait until last they're less vigilant.

We flew with them on Saturday and were very surprised how laid back it was.

We had 2 cases to check in which we had paid for, then the small bags each.

At Stansted you now weigh your bag yourself, a tag is printed for you to put round your case and then you basically walk across and give the case to be checked in at no point did anyone check our hand luggage Hmm

If you are travelling with just hand luggage as already said you need to pay for priority boarding which allows you one 10kg bag and a small bag.

@Connieston how big are your lunchboxes? I travel regularly with Ryanair - I always take my rucksack which fits under the seat in front. No need to pay any extra and I have never had it taken off me at the gate. The rucksack contains my laptop, kindle, toiletries folded up handbag, hairbrush, clean undies and clothes for the week. I certainly wouldn't be able to fit all that into a lunch box. Also worth being aware that all the airlines will let you take a duty free bag on board in addition to any allowances so you can buy something small and then decant other stuff into the duty free bag or keep a duty free bag at home for exactly this purpose
