Smelly Plumber

I currently have a lovely but very smelly plumber fitting a new shower, he has been here less than 20 mins and unfortunately, my house now smells of a mixture of BO & stale smoke so I have been going around the house opening windows pretending to be hot.
The plumber has now come down and asked if I could shut the windows as he is feeling chilly, Hmm
So my AIBU is, do I put up with the smell or just say no and keep the windows open and ask if he can pop on the jumper I can see in his van?
I don't want to be rude to him or upset him but he really does pong quite a bit Blush

Just say that he's a smoker and the smell of smoke makes you feel ill.

Keep the windows open where you are in the house and once he's finished open everything to air through. The smell won't be permanent.

Doesn't take that long to install a shower. He'll be gone soon. Give the place a good spray after he leaves.

He's such a lovely guy bless him, he did ask to leave the packaging as commercially they don't recycle but I've just looked and he has left all the components of the old shower as well, does anyone know if you can recycle those bits too?

At least he wasn't as bad as the guy I had once come to my old house to clean my carpets who decided to use the toilet with the door open, and no it wasn't just a wee Grin

People who smoke heavily don't realise how bad they smell. He genuinely won't have a clue that it would be strong enough to turn your stomach.

I would close the windows and just put up with the smell, as he wont be there for long in the grand scheme of things. But I'm a wuss

@PregnantSea I would but its the BO as well...

I would do as Musti says.

He’s got a bit of a nerve, asking you to close the windows because he feels chilly... Did he really say that? It sounds most odd

PregnantSea · 24/04/2019 10:18

Ew... Those BO smells can linger! I remember I had a Tesco delivery driver bring all my stuff into the kitchen at the back of the house. He was an absolute sweetheart and very helpful. But his BO was appalling, and it stunk the house out after him only being there for 10 minutes! Over an hour later when my DH got home, the second he walked into the house he said "ugh, wtf is that stink??". It was gone by morning, thank goodness...

Maybe just make up an excuse for the plumber? Say you're pregnant and overheating. No man would challenge that in someone else's house!

alwayssunnyinsouthhampton · 24/04/2019 10:23

@thegreyhoundSpeaks yeah he did, someone people are very strange.

@PregnantSea Luckily he has now gone, the smell lingers on though, I managed to keep the windows open by saying I would do it after I had changed my LO then hid until he was about to leave!

The smell lingers for an eternity, it seems. We had a kids party entertainer like this once, it was bloody mortifying when the parents arrived to collect the kids.
I complained and got a refund.
