Bought an old farmhouse with one last part to be converted, and have a builder in to do so.
Work is finally underway and he keeps asking for not money for 'unforeseen' situations. For example:
There is an opening already there which was supposed to be flush with the mezzanine level, and turned into a door (builder's idea, not in original plans). Turns out it's not flush, will cost 2000eur to extend.
Using the original doors as shutters on the outside. He proposed using the original wood in the hinge - turns out it's not strong enough so he wants another 300eur for new material and 700eur to redo the work.
As far as I'm concerned, it's his responsibility to see these problems in advance and avoid charging for them. Mezzanine is at 2.5m high, opening at 2.8m. he should have realised that. For the door, fair enough to pay for replacement wood but he should have realised before he built a new frame on it and hung it that it wasn't working, and avoided us paying hour him to do it twice.
AIBU?
