To think there are no healthy snacks...

...that aren't:

Fruit
Veg sticks
Boiled eggs
Unsalted nuts
Rice cakes

And actually satisfy hunger?

I need to eat little and often due to stomach issues but find healthier snacks difficult. I've given up chocolate, cake, biscuits, sweets and sugar in tea. I don't drink sugary drinks and after my morning cup of tea or two, I only drink water.

I've bought babybels today sling with salted nuts, hummus and plenty of fruit. Fruit feels like acid in my stomach though so I find it difficult to eat much of it.

I'd happily live off white carbs and cheese with a small amount of fruit and veg but now I'm in my 40s I'm trying to be healthier.

I'm veggie too and don't eat eggs.

What healthy yet satisfying snacks or very small meals do you enjoy?

Greek yogurt.
Popcorn.. satisfies the need for something crunchy/salty.
Ryvita with cream cheese.
Protein shake.

I like cottage cheese with some chopped fruit and nuts and a drizzle of honey.

Roasted cauliflower tastes good every cold
Eggplant caviar is amazing.
Cold rolls are great
Sushi can be very healthy. You can even do it without rice or use brown rice.
Cheese. Just by itself. I love Wensleydale with cranberries for a sweet treat
Yoghurt
Fennel is great as a snack
I often snack on healthy peanut but just out of a spoon

Cereal. Dry or with milk.

Olives, Tomatoes & avocados are fruit.
You can fill up on anything if you eat enough of it.

  • Slice of rye bread with nut butter/cottage cheese/cream cheese
  • Egg muffin - chop up veg you like place in muffin tins and pour egg over, bake in oven. They freeze well.
  • Pasta salad, just have small portions
  • Trail mix - pretzel pieces, dried fruit, brazil nuts/walnuts/peanuts/hazel nuts/almonds
  • Apple slices with peanut butter
  • Mini tortilla wraps filled with shredded chicken and salad
  • Banana pancakes - mash a banana, mix with beaten egg, fry spoonfuls using spray oil
  • Cereal with greek yoghurt
  • Sushi

Microwaved poppadums.

How do you eat fennel as a snack dressless?

Yes eggplant caviar does sound nice, will have to try that.

Unfortunately I don't like the slightly odd combinations of food that healthy aleating blogs tell you to eat as a snack eg apple with nut butter etc. Just isn't right to me.

Agree OP, the issue is that most of the above require some prep so not the same as just grabbing a packet of crisps.

Motheroffeminists · 23/04/2019 19:39

I'd never heard of eggplant caviar but I've had a google and it sounds nice although needs a fair bit of prep and cooking and blending.
Maybe experimenting with blended veggie dip type things is the way forward.
