M&S tills - celeb culture has gone too far

I vaguely heard about talking tills but never experienced it until today when I was shouted at by some woman who I later read was Amanda Holden.

If you are an M&S marketing person or exec who signed this off you need firing.

I actively avoid watching ITV or celeb anything. Not everyone fawns over celebrities and I’d be surprised M&S customers are the right demographic anyway.

I almost jumped and dropped my first item when she started yelling this morning.

Rant over.

I had Ant or Dec (who knows) yesterday at the self-service till. Quite disturbing somehow.

Gimmicks don't really fit with M&S.

You can turn the volume off at the tills - thank god! What a stupid idea - hate reality shows.

FakeUp · 23/04/2019 19:38

Thanks for the tips about the mute button. Presume it resets at highest possible volume for each new customer!

catzrulz · 23/04/2019 19:39

I live in the arse and of Argyll, what do they say?
We'll probably get them when they've all retired!

QueenofCBA · 23/04/2019 19:42

Where exactly is that mute button?
Also, do the tills always speak or is this a new thing? The ones in our M&S have never talked to me, or maybe I need my ears checked.

AdamAntsCrackpotHistory · 23/04/2019 19:48

I've never heard these! If you had a choice of voices that'd be cool. I'd go for Michael Caine!!

CherryCheezcake · 23/04/2019 19:54

@QueenofCBA It's the middle of the lower edge of the screen on the 'welcome' page, a picture of a speaker. Press several times until the speaker is crossed out.

AnalUnicorn · 23/04/2019 19:59

Can verify - mute button is a godsend.
