Daughter's predictable but weird period cycle

Good morning everybody

My daughter attends university In England and comes back home to Northern Ireland 3 or 4 times a year.

She NEVER has periods at uni, but without fail, every time she comes home her period arrives.this has been going on now for three years.

She's normal weight....size ten..... No other medical issues. Is very happy at university.

Anyone any ideas what could be going on??? Her GP doesn't seem to think it's an issue though. Very weird!

could it be stress? I don't ovulate when stressed. No ovulation = no period.

That’s not necessarily true. I have regular periods and never ovulate naturally because of PCOS.

OP, it could be one in a million things. Just stress or something more problematic like PCOS.

Tell her to get a period tracker like Flo and track it religiously for 6 months then get her to take her info to the GP. They may well tell her to go away until she wants to conceive but it’s worth a try.

I don’t think anyone on here can give much help because if happens to many women for lots of different reasons.

Could it be due to red meat? I lived off vegetarian food at uni with maybe a bit of chicken as it was cheaper and then red meat at home. Bam period after a few days of red meat.

because she mentions to me every time she comes back about her weird cycle....that is why it's 'to do with me' as she brings it up with me.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that. I was merely questioning why it's ok to discuss her periods but you consider it none of your business about her possibly being on the pill. Because it's a reasonable connection to make, and when asking about periods it does actually help to know if the person is on the pill or not.

Some interesting comments on here. Yes....I'll ask her if she's on the pill when she next mentions her cycle as out could well be a factor which I hadn't previously considered.

Could be a stress thing as I know she's v busy and tired at uni.

Cheers

I think OP was saying she wouldn’t criticise or judge her DD for being on the pill, rather than it being “none of her business”. And she hasn’t had a reason to ask. With the period issue, her DD brought it up so of course she is going to try to find out what might be happening. Nothing strange or inconsistent about her posts at all.

Hi, this sounds exactly like my periods, it might not have anything to do with uni vs home, I would have about 4 periods a year (maybe just happens to coincide with term time in your dds case?) I tracked it myself and basically
I had a 90 day cycle, I tried to find information on it , how common it was etc but never really got anywhere.
It didn't bother me, and didn't affect my fertility at all. Smile
