to ask whether there is a standard police email if you've been a victim of a crime?

Got an email today, but it's quite long-winded, so I'm presuming it's standard fare.

Do they do a copy and paste job with every reported crime?

I hope so

Why? You’re happy with it it seems so...?

LostPlatypus · 22/04/2019 03:18

I got a standard "your report has been accepted" email when reporting online and then two, very short, obviously personal replies (the latter stating they would phone me).

I was told, by the policeman who ended up visiting me, that they (my area) don't get many reports online so that's why it was dealt with so quickly. I think they also took it quite seriously, so that may also have helped.

Not sure if that helps you OP, sorry.

This one says they're investigating, someone will be in touch but it goes on to say:

"What the officer finds out can also help us in investigating other cases; identifying links between different crimes; and making sure police and other agencies know where problems are happening, so they can take action to protect other people from becoming victims'

I'm just wondering whether that's a standard statement or whether there's a suggestion of similar crimes being committed by the individuals concerned.

I think I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time so can't imagine they'll find other crimes linked, so I think it's just a copy and paste job.

Bump?

It's a standard email.

If there were a link to other crimes it would be unlikely that you would be informed.

Sunlov · 22/04/2019 21:21

Thanks. And you're saying that as a police officer I presume?

There are lots of standard emails, they clearly don’t have the resources to do individual responses to every single crime when they don’t have resources to investigate every crime
