Posting here for traffic but have had huge fire in back garden this afternoon.
Sheds, tools, fence panels all gone as well as damage to neighbouring property.
Now probably responsible for several neighbours damage as fire brigade have said fire started in my garden.

Local one yesterday the firemen said it was started by a mirror in a she'd.

Tevion10 · 21/04/2019 23:56

Not in that shed no. There was paints and stuff in the other one but it wasn't that one that went up.

Hmm, we were given the impression (well I guess it routine in our area) that fires are investigated to prove it’s not arson/intentional because of insurance claims, we had to send a copy to our insurers when we claimed.

If it’s been identified by the fire service OP you may never get to the bottom of it unfortunately.

FaithInfinity · 21/04/2019 23:57

If it hasn’t

Nicknacky · 21/04/2019 23:57

Will probably just be one of those things you get no answers from.

Tevion10 · 21/04/2019 23:58

Shed is right by neighbours fence

Nicknacky · 21/04/2019 23:58

Fires are investigated in the sense that the attending firefighters will provide an opinion but specific fire investigation won’t be deployed generally for minor fires. (In our area anyway)

Nicknacky · 21/04/2019 23:59

Op, you are inferring your neighbour is responsible. You don’t appear to have any proof of that.

Tevion10 · 22/04/2019 00:00

So frustrating because if we knew then could take steps to prevent it happening again

OP posts:
Tevion10 · 22/04/2019 00:00

Just looking at all possible explanations

OP posts:
Tevion10 · 22/04/2019 00:01

I'm surprised that they couldn't give a definate reason

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 22/04/2019 00:03

It’s not unusual not to get a definite cause. I deal with fire service regularly and it’s not like the programmes make out.

strawberrisc · 22/04/2019 00:05

Definate? Are you H? 😮

Nicknacky · 22/04/2019 00:06

Oooooh mystery solved!!

Tevion10 · 22/04/2019 00:06

And how can they so easily dismiss the reflective surface theory is this thier expertise at work.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 22/04/2019 00:07

No idea. Neither you or I were there.

Tevion10 · 22/04/2019 00:07

Why the sarcasm

OP posts:
Sparklesocks · 22/04/2019 00:08

It’s difficult to say, it could’ve been a number of things. Fires sometimes very clearly have a start point and you can follow the journey exactly, but other times there’s nothing to suggest how it happened - particularly if there’s not something like a fag butt etc left behind.

Kummerspeck · 22/04/2019 00:08

There was a fire near us this weekend, probably caused by a garden ornament with a glass sphere in it setting fire to a shed

SittinOnThaToilet · 22/04/2019 00:08

Your shed spontaneously combusted.

Nicknacky · 22/04/2019 00:08

It’s not sarcasm at all. I have no idea how the fire started or why they discounted a reflective surface. But surely your h spoke to them at length about it?

Floosey · 22/04/2019 00:09

Must be quite unsettling but it doesn't sound like you'll find out. All you can do is just be as careful as you can eg reflective surfaces.

There were 3 appliances in a neighbouring street today after a big garden fire. Luckily no one was hurt but like you they don't know what started it apparently.

SuperSara · 22/04/2019 00:23

One thing to be aware of, OP, is that your household insurance may well not payout to your neighbours.

If you haven’t been negligent - and it sounds like there’s no indication that you were - then you’re not responsible for damage to other people’s property.

Just mentioning it with regard to any awkwardness with neighbours, particularly if they don’t have their own insurance, for any reason.

nocoolnamesleft · 22/04/2019 00:35

Wouldn't think reflection would do it, though refraction might (lens effect). Fag butt more common then either though...

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/04/2019 01:09

Is the smoker the one who is most pushing for your DH to "admit" it was him burning something?

IF it is then you have your culprit.
