Please don’t flush sanitary protection down the toilet

Just a cheery reminder that sanitary products don’t go down toilets. Had a less than lovely easter walk along the beach today with my family and we must have picked up about thirty tampon applicators. Plastic bottles and carrier bags too but the applicators were everywhere. So just a cheery reminder because there’s always people who don’t know you’re not supposed to - please don’t flush anything other than toilet paper down the toilet Flowers

Bump.
Including paper liners for re-usable nappies. Just use loo paper!

Obligatory "please consider using a menstrual cup" comment.

Literally just had this conversation with a group of female friends who said after "oh, are you not meant to do that then?"
And this conversation began with me saying "I can't believe how many women don t realise you shouldn't be flushing tampons, applicators and the plastic wrappers down the loo" only to be further amazed that this included my friends. Intelligent senior-job friends.

why? does your country not have sanitation stations and dump raw sewage in the sea or something? why would there be tampon applicators on the beach? i'm confused partially because i live somewhere where flushing tampons is fine (certainly not the applicators, liners or actual pads though).
could this problem be coming from elsewhere due to the tide?

Funnily enough we were in the beech today and my 3yo picked up an applicator, I was disgusted and so bumping the thread!

I can’t understand anyone flushing the plastic applicator. Why would you do that?

Pumperthepumper · 21/04/2019 21:31

Knitclub I’m in the UK and I’m not pretending to be an expert on our waste systems - but as I understand it, we do have sanitation stations where any plastics should be filtered out. They can be blocked by heavy volumes of non-degradable items (like tampons, baby wipes, pads etc) which causes an overflow, leading to that waste ending up in rivers and the sea. No doubt it does come from other sources too but they definitely still should not be flushed.

Also, can I ask where you live where flushing tampons is fine? The advice on most (all?) tampon boxes is not to flush, partly because it can block drains and damage pipes.

I can't decide if these people are thick as pig shit, or just dirty lazy fuckers. No excuse.
