Hi,
I'm 5ft2" and weigh about 9.5 stone. I'd like to get down to 8.5. Any advice please - in particular is there anything I can cut out to make it easier to control my calorie intake or any exercises that burn weight quickly. I've never dieted before and really dislike exercise - but absolutely sick of my belly and double chin now!! Many thanks x

The main thing that worked for me was switching my entire eating habits to Intermittent Fasting! It’s genuinely a lifestyle change for me and I’ve been doing it for 2+ years.

I basically just don’t eat anything at all until 3pm, sometimes 4pm (only drink water/tea/black coffee until then) and then eat what I want, which is usually a healthy meal and a couple of healthy snacks (mostly - I could never give up chocolate and crisps!)

I think another huge factor is filling up on veggies, fruit and protein as this means that you’re nourishing your body but are also less likely to snack.

I’ve found that treating myself like a child works when I want a snack “you can have the biscuit after you’ve eaten some carrot!” 9/10 I don’t want the biscuit anymore and end up saving it for another time.

I don’t ban any foods but I just try to make good decisions as I feel incredible when I eat healthy food.

As far as exercise, yoga was a game changer for me. There are a ton of people of YouTube that you can follow (Yoga with Adrienne!). I also do Lucy Wyndham Read’s videos on YouTube and they’re really good.

Good luck!!!

Fill up on fruit & veggies if you can. I've lost 1.5 stone in a couple of months by giving up mostly bread, cheese and fizzy juice! I'm not a massive cake/sweet/crisp lover anyway so I don't eat much of that.
Also using one cal spray if frying anything instead of oil.

I honestly feel so much better now and that's helping me make healthier choices, so now I find I don't want as much junk food as I did before .

Exercise I tend to walk/jog as much as I can including 30 mins on my lunch break each day.

Keep hydrated too, plenty of water. Good luck!

I'm 5 feet nothing, was 9 stone 1. Want to get to 8 stone. I'm around 8 stone 4 now, so nearly there.

So very similar proportions to you. It really shows when you're short, doesn't it?! Flowers

I think it's so individual, you just have to pick a way of doing it that works for you. This is what I did/am still doing

  • filling breakfast. Bircher muesli with low/no fat yoghurt works best
  • soup for lunch
  • snacks of chopped carrot, apples, other fruit, rice cakes etc. Low fat spready cheese on Ryvita if I needed something filling
  • Small-ish portions for dinner. We kept our dinner options fairly healthy (cooked a lot out of that Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall 'Veg Every Day' book).
  • regular small treats! DP and I shared one of those very small bars of Green and Blacks chocolate quite a few nights a week
  • Cutting down on booze. Switching to alcohol free beer helped me a lot, because i stil felt like I was having a drink, but only 60 cal a bottle
  • I upped my exercise but only to the extent that two small children and a busy job allow. So walked more quickly and tried to walk more often - walking where I might usually take a short bus journey, for example.

All in all calorie counting plus a bit more exercise.

It's take me since early Feb to get to this point, so my bad.

It helped me a lot to think of it as 'eating more healthily' and trying to make some sustainable lifestyle choices. I was partly doing it for vanity and partly because DP and I are pretty old parents and want to aim to be healthy in old age for the DC Wink

Good luck. Happy to answer any questions.

Sorry, typo, that was meant to be "since early Feb to get to this point, so not bad"

Cutting down portion sizes worked well for me I use a small side plate. I also keep a food diary.i have one day off a week where I have what I want for tea it keeps me from craving food. Also measuring out pasta cheese etcand sticking to the recommended portions. I find pinterest brilliant for meal ideas.

Raspberrytruffle · 21/04/2019 19:42

It helped me shift 12 stone too op and keep it off

noworklifebalance · 21/04/2019 20:02

12 stone!! That's amazing!

I replaced all white carbs (pats, cereals, rice, pasta, bread, wraps, pitta, potatoes) with veg, fruit or Greek yoghurt depending on the meal.

I am not a veggie so it's easy to keep the carbs low - e.g smoked mackerel and salad, omlettes etc.

No puddings.
No cows milk in coffee. No lattes of any kind.
White coffee with coconut or soy milk.
Booze only if out for a special occasion. If I go out for a dinner with hubby & kids I no longer have a glass of wine. Will have a drink or two when having dinner with friends, as this is less frequent so a treat.

I don't miss any of it at all. It's now ingrained in me and feels normal rather than denying myself something. This feeling only took 3 weeks to achieve.

16:8 fast most days but I don't let it rule my life.

HIIT exercises at home in my living room - much more achievable and cheaper than going to the gym.

You sound a healthy weight for your height.

Rainatnight · 21/04/2019 20:48

@Rock, it's right at the upper end of healthy for OP's height, and it really does show if you're not very tall.
