To ask if you would vote for The Remain Party

MsLucyHoneychurch · 21/04/2019 10:08

if there was a political party with that name?

Nigel Farage has formed the Brexit Party for the EU elections. Do you wish there was a Party campaigning passionately for the UK to remain in the EU.

Obviously this doesn't apply to voters in Scotland who have the SNP.

NoBaggyPants · 21/04/2019 10:11

I'd want to know what the rest of their policies are.

As important as Brexit is, there's a whole lot of other stuff going on that is equally important. Poverty, education, the NHS. And that stuff will continue to be important once Brexit is sorted.

NoBaggyPants · 21/04/2019 10:12

It's why I'd never touch Chuka's party. They don't have any other policies.

TanMateix · 21/04/2019 10:13

As far as I know, the remain party is the Liberal Democrats, the only reason I am not voting for them is because if we split the vote we have the tories in for further years to come or hand the power to extremists like Farage.

KC225 · 21/04/2019 10:13

No - not a chance.

Strumpetpumpet · 21/04/2019 10:16

Yes I would x

How999 · 21/04/2019 10:18

Yes but we already have a couple - the Lib Dems and Change UK.

FPTP makes their chances a joke however.

PortiaCastis · 21/04/2019 10:19

I'm against leaving but any other party has to have additional policies besides the toxic brexit there's no point in voting for one trick ponies

Butterymuffin · 21/04/2019 10:19

Yes! Though what we need in practical terms is a Remain 'umbrella' as someone put it on the Westminst enders threads, allowing groups and parties to band together.

greenlloon · 21/04/2019 10:19

no i believe democracy

How999 · 21/04/2019 10:20

Sorry - you are talking about the EU elections - yes I will vote for the most pro European candidate.

How999 · 21/04/2019 10:20

(And that is the opposite of going against democracy Confused).

happyhillock · 21/04/2019 10:22

Definitely Not

RebeccaWrongDaily · 21/04/2019 10:23

No. And doing so would leave us with the bastard Tories forever more.

I have to say, I find Green voters (and I imagine, would also find Remain party voters) quite smug and hypocritical. They moan about the Tories, yet don't do anything but sit on their high horse encouraging people to not vote for the one party that might stand a chance of getting them out.
Lib Dems are and always have been, desperate to be relevant, but will latch onto any thing to get hold of power.

Easterbunnymum · 21/04/2019 10:26

All mainstream parties are pro-remain anyway, so there is no need for a new one...

GabrielleNelson · 21/04/2019 10:33

Easterbunnymum, that's not true. The Tories are pro-Brexit and so unfortunately are Labour, even though the majority of Labour voters aren't, according to some polls. DUP also pro-Brexit, UKIP obviously, Farage's Brexit Party. Nice company for Labour!

Pro-Remain are the LibDems, the Greens, the SNP and ChangeUK (The Independent Group). Not sure about Plaid Cymru given that Wales was a majority Leave area. Sinn Fein are pro-Remain.

Easterbunnymum · 21/04/2019 10:39

If Tories were really pro-brexit we would have it by now. Also if labour were pro-brexit they would not block it.

WillGymForPizza · 21/04/2019 10:41

If you live in Scotland of Wales then the SNP and Plaid are pro remain.

PunkRockHippy · 21/04/2019 10:48

The EU elections are going to be a proxy second referendum, in effect. It is a single issue election. It’s PR and party lists as well, rather than specific individual candidates and FPTP. So it’s all about the party’s Brexit stance.

Remainers can vote Lib Dem or Green or Change (or even WEP who I believe are also standing), they’re all clearly remain/people’s vote. There’s no need for a ‘Remain’ party. Remainers have options to make their voices heard.

Isthisafreename · 21/04/2019 10:57

@Easterbunnymum - If Tories were really pro-brexit we would have it by now. Also if labour were pro-brexit they would not block it.

If the tories were in any way competent, brexit would have happened by now. However, they assumed (because, after all, do they know who we are?) that the EU would just cave in and give them what they wanted, so they came up with a policy that was impossible to deliver. No customs union/single market = treat NI differently to GB and have a border in the Irish Sea. No treating NI differently, as promised to the DUP = staying in the customs union and single market.

Do you see the circularity of the arguments? The only other option is to ignore the GFA, which is only an international peace treaty, so obviously not terribly important.

Easterbunnymum · 21/04/2019 11:07

Well, they did shelve the “no deal” option (not that I agree with it). So obviously not in a hurry to leave.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/04/2019 11:08

No need for a brexit party then surely

As the two biggest parties are brexit supporting

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/04/2019 11:09

Ooh gosh

Didnt mean to press post Grin

Langrish · 21/04/2019 11:09

In Euro elections? Yes.

Peridot1 · 21/04/2019 11:11

Although the LibDems, Greens and now Change Uk are remain parties they will just split the vote which means it’s more likely that UKIP or the Brexit party will get more seats.

It’s too late for a Remain Party as one doesn’t exist. Change UK don’t seem to want to talk to the Lib Dem’s or Greens. A load of Labour MPs are also standing but don’t seem to want to address the issue that Labour still haven’t committed to a second referendum and are a Brexit party.

There is a group called RemainVoter.com which are tracking areas and voting statistics etc and will be advising who is best to vote for in each area to maximise the chance of the majority vote going to remain. You can follow them on Twitter or Facebook or sign up to the site.

GabrielleNelson · 21/04/2019 11:14

We don't have Brexit because there was no agreement about what it meant. The Leave campaign lied and lied again and broke electoral law so badly that if it had been a council or parliamentary election it would have had to be re-run. When it came to implementing the result of the referendum it became clear that the pro-Brexit MPs hadn't a clue what they wanted and what could realistically be achieved.

So in three years we've gone from £350m a week for the NHS to 'leaving the EU is about upholding a 'higher democratic principle' and the UK must honour the referendum result, regardless of any economic fallout' - pretty much admitting most people will be worse off but saying it will be worth it. Easy for Farage and the other wealthy Brexiteers to say. They've got their money offshore. Freedom of movement will always still be there for the rich.
