To ask you for help with my bits?

I was reading an old MN thread about how bar soap and a flannel is much better than body wash. I've had two showers now with soap and a flannel, and I think I must have gone a bit gung ho on my bits because they are very, very sore. Soap clearly does not agree with me.

Does anybody have any ideas about how to calm things down? So far all I have done is slather myself in sudocrem, and it hasn't done much. I had to duck out of a family trip to pizza express because I didn't fancy sitting there in agony. Gutted.

I use dove with no issues too.

Claw01 · 20/04/2019 22:28

I use dove too

Zoflorabore · 20/04/2019 22:37

Another one who uses Dove and no problems. I'm quite thorough when cleaning my bits and boobs as I have OCD and always think I'm not clean.
I've used every shower gel under the sun in my time and have never ever had thrush. I'm 41.

I would feel dirty just using water to be honest. That to me is like washing the dishes with no fairy liquid, wouldn't be properly clean Grin

Ivegotthree · 20/04/2019 22:44

I've used soap on my bits for over 40 years and not got thrush

Claw01 · 20/04/2019 22:48

My bits must be tough as old boots!

I’ve just various soaps, body washes, sponges, flannels never had a problem. Did burn a bit, when shaving foam, went where it shouldn’t!

Just to clarify we are talking external?

Claw01 · 20/04/2019 22:48

used

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 20/04/2019 23:29

I use my usual shower gel for vulva and pubic area with no problems, no need for internal cleaning. Never ever make the mistake of using teatree and mint original source shower gel down below. Just don't do it, the memory still makes me wince.

WatershedMoment · 20/04/2019 23:35

If its unbearable try paracetamol or/and ibuprofen until it settles down to take the edge off the discomfort.

LeSquigh · 20/04/2019 23:40

I think that so many people have heard the word vulva on here (a word that no one actually uses in real life!) and a lot don’t actually seem to know what it is.

I have always given the outside and inside a good scrub with a body buffer and shower gel and soap and never had any problems, it doesn’t feel clean if I don’t!

I’m sorry for your predicament though OP, a sore vag is the worst. Metanium is good but is very drying I have found (when I’ve been sore after too much sex). I have also used hydrocortisone cream (yes inside as well, I realise this will horrify some!) which can work well or a chamomile tea bath.

SandAndSea · 20/04/2019 23:47

I would try putting some coconut oil on. Maybe put it in the fridge for a bit first to cool it and aid the soothing effect.

SandAndSea · 20/04/2019 23:49

A good scrub??!!

Claw01 · 21/04/2019 00:00

I’m not sure what the ‘inside’ means anymore!

I assume we are not talking about douching, with soap and flannels? Just washing your ‘lips’ and the parting in between?

VanGoghsDog · 21/04/2019 00:09

You put a body buffer up your vagina?

MountainDweller · 21/04/2019 00:32

My gynae recommends a few drops of tea tree oil in water for the surrounding area. For me it helps keep thrush at bay. Maybe don't try it while it's really sore, might sting a bit Shock

Ihatehashtags · 21/04/2019 07:31

You should never wash your bits with anything other than a flannel and warm water. Anything else is upsetting the bacterial flora and asking for thrush.

DointItForTheKids · 21/04/2019 09:41

I think it's an utter load of bollocks to say "you should never wash your vulva with anything other than plain water". So you'd be happy with a partner never putting soap on his balls - yeuch - not Envy.

Clearly, it's not a problem for a great many of us, it's NEVER given me thrush and I'm 52. It might do if you're susceptible, otherwise many people would not have adverse symptoms; if you're someone who could get thrush from it, then you're probably using the wrong product that's too harsh or you're washing out your vag with it - which yeah, that is going to upset the flora, which live up there.

If women don't know what the vulva is FGS, learn the name for the parts of your body will ya! Who the would scrub their vagina (you know, that's the inside part where babies come out) - bull crap. No one would scrub their vagina - surely?!!? Shock. Or do you mean the inner lips area of the vulva? Again, NO need to exfoliate and scrub that area either - Christ on a bike, you'd be sore! (And never be able to ride a bike!).

You could indeed exfoliate around the outer labia (the bits that grow hair on them) - if you shave and get ingrown hairs there, that could be sensible if you didn't go too mad at it.

KC225 · 21/04/2019 09:46

Duchessgummybuns Soap + Fanjo sounds a like drag magic act.

Vagisil for fanjo taming.

Branleuse · 21/04/2019 09:56

i use a little bit of soap on my fanny, but really only a little bit and certainly dont scrub it. Its sensitive down there

SuperNoodly · 21/04/2019 10:07

Only MN are women divided in to two camps on vag washing. You either half-arsedly splash a bit of water on your bits once a week OR you’re scrubbing and buffing every fold and crease with Zoflora.

Absofuckinglutely · 21/04/2019 10:11

Sounds like the start of thrush where the vulva is all red, inflamed and almost shiny - but not at stage of discharge. It will be a change in ph that's caused it. I'd use canesten cream for a few days (keep at it, or won't help immediately) and a pessary if it doesn't settle (it should).

The only thing I can use is Simple soap on my fanjo. Anything else causes irritation. Bath bombs are also a culprit, cannot use those at all - immediate fiery fanny!

SpamChaudFroid · 21/04/2019 10:15

After washing, rinse, rinse and rinse some more.

mozzarellasticks · 21/04/2019 10:19

I use Simple bar soap and water, always have

Candleglow7475 · 21/04/2019 10:21

Do you think you’ve scrubbed it too hard with a flannel?? My parts do get a light soaping or an unperfumed wash as plain water does not seem to cut the mustard on its own. Shower gel would burn the feck out of mine though so I wouldn’t use that.

PrasadsNonDyingDeclaration · 21/04/2019 10:25

What are you all doing that your “fanjos” need to be “tamed” as one PP put it?

I find a shower once or twice per day if I’ve been at the gym with mostly water and lightest swish of very mild body wash on the white parts (never the pink) is more than enough.

Claw01 · 21/04/2019 10:36

supernoodly Grin are you team zoflora or half arse?
