Registrar saying something different to consultant and has signed me off(( not sure what to do and annoyed)

Have had a long time issue with my ears( infections due to tiny canals and exzema) and have been under ENT. Have seen a several registrars which has involved anti biotic drops which then lead to thrush in ear( painful). Then saw consultant who inserted cream in my ear. Think it sorted it and he then prescribed steroid cream alongside saying I’d need long term suction and visits to keep on top of infections and stop them happening.Got bumped back to registrar on the last visit who has signed me off.Confused When I said consultant said regular visits she said it wasn’t in my notes. Not sure what to do. Can I or should I get it checked, if so how? Bit annoyed re lack of consistency too.

Check with GP if anything has come into your notes from the consultant in writing re the regular follow up. If not ask GP to write to consultant for clarification as there seems to be some confusion.

Fantastic thanks. Hadn’t thought of that. There is a patient support thing I noticed on other complaints re the hospital review page. Would you say Gp instead of that?

I know this doesn't help now but if this happened again I would (politely but firmly) ask the registrar to go and double check with the consultant as they had said something entirely different previously, which was the only thing that had worked, and that I was happy to wait as long as needed. Then I wouldn't leave until this had happened.

I'm a hospital consultant, patients not infrequently ask to see me. I can't always undertake their whole review depending on other patients coming in who I might need to see, but I'd always be happy to stuck my head in and say hello and confirm that I agree with my registrar. Or if I didn't, explain to the registrar why I don't - they are there to be trained afterall and sometime's either won't get it right, or choose a plan that isn't wrong but I wouldn't prefer for a variety of reasons.

I'd definitely ask your GP to write for clarification. You could also phone your consultants secretary directly to query it.
