WIBU to ask him to sleep on the sofa bed

DH snores. Normally it's not too loud, so I can sleep through most of it.

A few weeks ago we all had colds. This meant that DH was snoring very, very loudly, meaning very little sleep for me. As the colds cleared up, so did the snoring, and I got to sleep.

DH has just had a week away for a hobby. Got back yesterday, and snored his head off all last night. But when I asked him to please sort it out (get water, nasal spray, open the window, sort his pillows out etc) he got in a right arse with me. Angry

Tomorrow I'm competing in a sporting event I've been training for, for months. I NEED sleep!

WIBU to ask him to sleep on the sofa bed, seeing as he won't sort out his fucking snoring?

Why couldn't you sleep on the sofa bed?

MangoBiscuit · 20/04/2019 10:57

Well that's the other option, but whoever goes on the sofa bed probably won't sleep quite as well.

We've had coffee and talked calmly Smile and he suggested that he sleep elsewhere to let me get a full night's sleep.

stay in the same bed and get some ear plugs?

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 20/04/2019 11:01

or maybe go to bed earlier than DH and hopefully you will be sound asleep by the time he comes up?

MangoBiscuit · 20/04/2019 11:13

I do go to bed earlier than him. Last night he was so loud he kept waking me up. I got 2 hours sleep before it started.

I need to hear my alarm, so might struggle with ear plugs. I've tried setting my watch to go off so my alarm didn't disturb DH, but it doesn't wake me. I suppose I could set my alarm really loud, but that would wake DH too.

Ear plugs are very uncomfortable, to be fair. He needs to sort his snoring out.

sanmiguel · 20/04/2019 11:38

I agree with you OP. If he doesn't wish to at least try to sort his snoring out, the least he can do is take the sofa bed so you can have a decent sleep tonight for your event tomorrow. Is it running related? Good luck!

MangoBiscuit · 20/04/2019 13:19

Thank you sanmiguel. Not running, thankfully! This will probably out me, but it's powerlifting.

I think we're going to look at getting some new pillows. DH says he's suddenly gotten very stuffy again since getting home, so will call GP on Tuesday and see if he can find out why.

Could be hayfever I am back on piriton for this reason. People can be sensitive to tree pollen which comes out way before flowers. However I would like to know is he overweight?

MrsElizabethShelby · 20/04/2019 13:25

OP if it's been bad since he came home, I bet he has a dust allergy! I do, this means I have to regularly wash pillows and change bedding as well as giving my bedroom a good weekly hoover including the bed and mattress.

Try the above and also get him some beaconase nasal spray. Twice a day and I bet he will start to feel alot better and snore less quite quickly!

MangoBiscuit · 20/04/2019 13:39

No he's not overweight, despite the volume of food he can clear! He's reasonably active. Will try to get piriton today. He has a nasal spray already, but it only seems to work for a couple of hours. Bedding gets changed weekly, same frequency for dusting and hoovering.

Highly recommend silent night anti-snore pillow. Really worked for us and not too different from a regular pillow.

Dutch1e · 20/04/2019 14:29

I snore and DH is a light sleeper. So we have two double beds in separate rooms and everyone gets to rest. The snorer needs to move, to do otherwise is just saying "I'm an arse who doesn't care about you getting something as fundamental as sleep"

When I've steeled my nerve to explore surgical options we'll sleep in the same bed again
