So I'm seeing family from over 400miles away.

One 7yo I'm seeing for the first time. But who is she? She's my grandmas, brothers, sons daughter. Also super cute and so excited to meet her but can't work out the relation!

Grand-uncle's son's daughter
Uncle(?)'s son's daughter
Cousin's daughter
Second cousin??

Possibly?

Grin
SneakyGremlins · 19/04/2019 20:37

Wait, one too many daughters

Should say uncle (I think, going down the generations) 's daughter

So a cousin? Grin

It's like a puzzle!

LorelaiRoryEmily · 19/04/2019 20:38

Your grandma’s brothers sons daughter.
So your grandmas brother is your great uncle. His son is your father or mother’s first cousin.
I think that makes him your first cousin once removed and his daughter is your second cousin

KnitterOfSocks · 19/04/2019 20:38

The "son" is cousin to one of your parents. So his daughter is your second cousin. She's the same generation as you, therefore no "once removed" etc.

Knittedfairies · 19/04/2019 20:39

Found this:
Your grandmother's brother is your great uncle (or granduncle, in some versions of English), his son (your parent's first cousin) is your first cousin once removed, and the son's daughters are your second cousins.

HiHoney · 19/04/2019 20:39

Third cousin? She's your parents (whoever grandma is the mum of) cousins child, their second cousin.

SneakyGremlins · 19/04/2019 20:39

I was right the first time! Dammit. I got confused!

PenCreed · 19/04/2019 20:39

Your great-uncle's son is your mum/dad's first cousin, and your first cousin once-removed. I think she's your second cousin. Maybe...

Still18atheart · 19/04/2019 20:40

In our family that’s a 3rd cousin I think

chickenalapesh · 19/04/2019 20:41

Ok. I was thinking my great uncle son (who is my mums first cousin) might have been my second cousin so then lost as to how I'm related to the daughter.

OP posts:
LorelaiRoryEmily · 19/04/2019 20:42

No he’s your first cousin once removed and his daughter is your second cousin.

chickenalapesh · 19/04/2019 20:46

Okay. I'm going with second cousin then :)

The once removed thing is what's blows my brains!

OP posts:
LorelaiRoryEmily · 19/04/2019 20:49

🤣 mine too op. I had to get it explained to me. I actually grew up with my second cousins. My fathers cousins children.

PierreBezukov · 19/04/2019 20:53

She's your second cousin once removed

Your grandma's son is your second cousin.

BackforGood · 19/04/2019 20:53

Child is your 2nd cousin
You parent and her parent are (first) cousins
You and her parent (also your parent and her) are cousins once removed from each other.

However, for your question - 2nd cousins.

lidoshuffle · 19/04/2019 20:54

Cousin twice removed I think.

e1y1 · 19/04/2019 20:59

This will help OP

She is your second cousin. Your GMs Brother is your great uncle, his son is your 1st cousin but once removed (as he is a generation up from you). His daughter is your second cousin, her offspring in later years will be your second cousin once removed (a generation down).

The "removed" thing is going up and down the generations.

My mum has first cousins - they share a grandparent. Those same people are my first cousins once removed, as they are up a generation from me. Their children are my second cousins - no removes, as we are the same generation.

BeverlyGoldberg · 20/04/2019 09:42

You're the same relation to her as one of my relations is to my little girl. We call her "grand cousin" which she loves. They have a lovely relationship.
