To think it’s ok to offer an open but unused duvet to a homeless person?

OK, so it’s not totally unused, I actually used it for 2 hours the night I got it then realised it was way too hot as I got the wrong tog and haven’t used it since.

I bought it a few months ago and it’s just been taking up space since then, now I need to have a bit of a clear out and I understand charity shops won’t take them and it seems homeless shelters only want singles, this is a double. It seems a waste to just throw it away and there are loads of homeless people near where I live (Central Southampton) - should I just approach one of them and ask if they want it or is that weird/insulting do you think?

Yeah just approach one and give it to them they'll be fine.

I've done it and they've been grateful. Go for it.

Doubletrouble99 · 19/04/2019 22:15

Will a charity shop not take it?

FrogFairy · 19/04/2019 22:20

It is a lovely thought, but won’t it be a bit bulky to carry around?

I collect them for the project at work, covers too and they get grabbed straight away, towels too and other bedding. We just ask that it's freshly washed if used.

Many of our clients are vulnerably housed in damp conditions so duvets get nasty quickly. We also collect sleeping bags which are more practical if street homeless or sofa surfing, plus backpacks again very useful if you move around a lot
