Posting here for traffic.
My ds aged 18 blonde fair skinned wants to get some colour for his holiday in July and also suffers from. Psoriasis.
He is a novice to sunbeds and I'm just looking for advice from anybody who uses them.
Does he need to wear suncream goggles etc and how long should he spend on them.

People are not bloody rude. Do you want your DS to get skin cancer? I wonder sometimes how people in this day and age are even considering sun beds - it's reckless, stupid and really irresponsible.

Tevion10 · 19/04/2019 16:05

Well all his mates are using them so I guess thier parents are all idiots despite the fact we are talking about 18 year olds.

OP posts:
churchthecat · 19/04/2019 16:07

Yes, they are all idiots. I know 2 people that have died from skin cancer, and 2 more that have had to have chunks of malignant skin removed. One of them has had part of their top lip removed.

churchthecat · 19/04/2019 16:07

If he's that vain tell him to get a spray tan.

Tevion10 · 19/04/2019 16:07

He has been to the doctors obviously but the psoriasis persists so just trying to find ways obviously I don't want my adult son to get harmed do I.
There are guidelines for use to adhere to.

Honestly I came on here for advice not to be insulted.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 19/04/2019 16:09

Yep, all your sons parents are idiots as are you for considering it. But he's 18 so it's ok if he knows the risks and gets cancer so crack on

Heyarnold91 · 19/04/2019 16:09

You’re either a troll or a terrible mother for not warning him of the dangers.
Yes he’s 18 and can make his own decisions but you don’t have to facilitate those decisions and encourage him

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 19/04/2019 16:10

I used to sunbathe and get burned quite a lot in my younger days. Recently, I got a single skin cancer on my face -( fortunately, not the most dangerous sort). The dermatologist told me that it was probably unavoidable if I had sunburn, no sun protection when I was a child - the beginnings of it would have been sown then (40-50 years ago) and it wouldn't be because of anything I'd recently done or rather not done to do with sun protection.

spaniorita · 19/04/2019 16:10

Spray tan him if he's desperate.
Please do not let your son use a sun bed.

Lolwhat · 19/04/2019 16:11

Is this real? Get him a spray tan don’t put him on a sun bed, surely you know how bad they are?

Celebelly · 19/04/2019 16:11

Hmm Are there really still people out there who don't know how bloody dangerous sunbeds are? Of course he can do what he wants, he's 18, but as a parent I wouldn't be enabling him or condoning it, much less giving him tips about how to maximise his tan!

Tevion10 · 19/04/2019 16:12

And how is anybody on here to know that I haven't already warned him. jesus christ.

OP posts:
Celebelly · 19/04/2019 16:13

Anyway, if he's old enough to choose to dramatically increase his risk of skin cancer he's old enough to research the answers to those questions himself...

Tevion10 · 19/04/2019 16:13

Look thanks to those who have given constructive advice as for the select few sling your hooks.

OP posts:
Bringbackthestripes · 19/04/2019 16:13

Honestly I came on here for advice not to be insulted.

Well the advice is don’t let him use a sun bed Hmm

turnedToInsult · 19/04/2019 16:14

I saw a great slogan the other day. Something about how a parent isn't on a mission to be liked; they need to guide their children and protect them.

Are you going to parent (v.)?

Tevion10 · 19/04/2019 16:15

Yes I have taken note of the majority of posters who have told me this in a decent manner

OP posts:
user1480880826 · 19/04/2019 16:16

How could you expect anything other than to be called an idiot? And yes, of course the other parents are idiots too.

I’m guessing you would be appalled if a parent came on her and asked about enabling their kid to get hit by a bus?

How are there still so many people who refuse to believe the dangers of some things despite the tonnes of scientific evidence? I bet you still think cigarettes are good for you too.

Whoops75 · 19/04/2019 16:17

There are guidelines for use to adhere to

Yes, the guidelines are not to use sunbeds

There are specific light booths for psoriasis which are safe but won’t give a tan.

lanbro · 19/04/2019 16:17

I'm amazed people still use sun beds...there is one in our village and they're always busy Confused

Tevion10 · 19/04/2019 16:18

Obviously it would have been a trial with minimal use to see but not to become a obsession that was the way of going.

OP posts:
Tevion10 · 19/04/2019 16:19

Jesus user what a stupid comment

OP posts:
Tevion10 · 19/04/2019 16:20

Well I don't smoke or drink

OP posts:
Prequelle · 19/04/2019 16:23

There's no such thing as a 'trial'. A single sunbed use increase the risk of cancer.
