What the fuck is wrong with these bananas?

I'm not fussy but my bananas from Lidl are revolting and not sure what is wrong with them Confused

The skin seems very thick, and the banana itself is a crappy thin crumbling thing with no taste. Seriously I have not encountered this before and wonder is this some kind of mistake and are they a different species ie plantain (but obviously not plantain!) because they are so alien?

Irritated because they've spoilt breakfast two days running and I hate food waste but even I have to chuck these. What on earth is wrong with them though?

I had a batch like this from Waitrose a couple of weeks ago. They were crumbly and vile. I binned them.

brizzlemint · 19/04/2019 10:09

They had spiders eggs in them which have no hatched.

Shock
Osirus · 19/04/2019 23:15

There will always be variations in natural produce. Sounds horrible though.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/04/2019 23:17

Awwww brizzlemint beat me to it!

cricketmum84 · 19/04/2019 23:37

Full of spiders. Fucktonnes of them.

FoxSquadKitten · 20/04/2019 14:17

Spiders? What do you mean?

Welcometotherock · 20/04/2019 14:26

Never wants bananas again...

Fireandflames666 · 20/04/2019 14:59

Spiders eggs in bananas????. Now I'm put off them for life, but my three year old loves them.

brizzlemint · 20/04/2019 15:11

Just don't buy bananas in bags, always buy them loose

ineedaknittedhat · 20/04/2019 15:11

They're probably diseased. Spiders don't live inside bananas.

XiCi · 20/04/2019 15:19

I've just googled in horror about spider eggs in bananas and it's an urban myth thank fuck. The bananas were probably off. I find fruit and veg from Aldi /Lidl /Asda goes off really quickly.

KurriKurri · 20/04/2019 15:23

Some kind of banana disease (like whatever it is that makes apples go all woolly). I've stopped buying bananas from tesco because they are always all black inside even if the outside is green. I think they throw them onto the shelves as if they are going for gold in the discus.

MidnightBlue00 · 20/04/2019 15:27

Incorrect storage when transported possibly-if the bananas have been stored in too low a temp they can become chalky. As the skin is unusually thick though maybe dieased plants, drought or something similar.
Natural variation in fresh produce is to be expected but if they're inedible I'd have taken them back
