So we were lying in bed and DD (3) comes in. We are talking about what we are doing today (trip to the theatre and then to DFILs for food) and DH mentions FIL will drive us to his house as he will be nearby.
I asked what we will do about car seats as it is breaking the law and I want DD to be safe etc and DH has stormed off calling me ‘fucking anal’ and 99% of people would not care.
AIBU to want my child in a car seat? It is a couple of miles across central and will probably take 20-30 mins depending on traffic

Does he want his father to get prosecuted and fined?

We have a bubblebum for this sort of occasion. It's not as safe as her usual seat but is better than nothing.

BluishMoon · 19/04/2019 07:43

We do have a car seat unfortunately it was in the car which had died a week earlier, and baby needed to go a&e, so it really was a no choice situation.

Although you have reminded me that I need to get a new one as he'll now be too big for the first size one now. I have to admit I've not really given it much thought until now as we still don't have a new car Blush

Youngandfree · 19/04/2019 07:47

@BluishMoon yes I understand that is a stressful situation and very much an emergency. I hope your baby is ok now 💕Yes you should always have an appropriate car seat available.

I didn’t have a car when mine were babies. I had a car seat though.

And because I used a lot a public transport had a boostapak too. Which for a three year old would be adequate to keep them safe in such situations. You can get inflatable boosters now too which are even less bulky.

I have a car now. The boosterpak pretty much lives in the boot for when I have to pick up other children at short notice.

Your Dh is completely unreasonable.

HoneyDragon · 19/04/2019 07:51

If you’re in town why not buy a cheap booster for FIL to keep?

ittakes2 · 19/04/2019 07:58

You are not being unreasonable - what your hubby is suggesting is not only illegal but would invalidate your insurance if you were to have a car accident.

SmallPinkBear · 19/04/2019 08:37

Thanks all. Friend around the corner has a trunki booster so we are going to borrow that. DH still thinks I am being ridiculous Hmm

Trunkiboosta is your answer. Not cheap but easy to carry. Kid can fill it with stuff.

And its handy to have a spare booster when kids get bigger and your picking up friends or they are going with friends.

My eldest is 7 and has only very occasionally not been in a car seat. (Taxi rides and once a 4 minute drive home from school).
