As the title really.. This just seems a bit on the nose so to speak and I'm not one of these perpetually offended types at all.

What do you think?

Op is there supposed to be a photo?

Spaceunicorn6789 · 18/04/2019 14:33

Oh yes. Oops Blush

Spaceunicorn6789 · 18/04/2019 14:34

Omg why isn't it working

OP posts:
Spaceunicorn6789 · 18/04/2019 14:39

Can't get it too upload but it was an email from Very and the subject line was...

"Unless you're legally blind SpaceUnicorn, cast your eyes on these offers" Shock

Well I expect some of their customers ARE legally blind because that doesn't mean you can't shop online, perhaps using assistance software, and those people might well find it a bit insensitive, yes.

PregnantSea · 18/04/2019 14:58

How odd? I wonder if it's one of those things where they purposefully go "edgy" to get lots of publicity/buzz

SneakyGremlins · 18/04/2019 15:00
Hmm
onalongsabbatical · 18/04/2019 15:02

Inappropriate IMHO. I mean what's the difference between that and a shoeshop advertising their shoes as being unless you have no feet you can wear these? Etc.

viques · 18/04/2019 15:03

nasty imo. Would they use other disabilities in the same way

You must be learning disabled if you don't think this is a great offer.

Or

Shame you are in a wheel chair and can't walk because these boots are the bees knees.

Or
WE ARE WRITING THIS IN CAPS BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE ARE MUTT AND JEFF.

AryaStarkWolf · 18/04/2019 15:04

It's definitely a bit weird

cantfindname · 18/04/2019 15:09

If the recipient was 'legally blind' they wouldn't be offended as they couldn't read it Grin Grin

But I agree it is an unpleasant and unnecessary way of advertising.

TixieLix · 18/04/2019 15:12

But someone legally blind could 'read' it, if they're using screen reading software on a computer. We have a secretary at work who uses such software and fulfils the role very effectively. I think it's a very insensitive comment from Very.

DGRossetti · 18/04/2019 15:38

DW is "legally blind" but can read. She's just commented that she bets that "Very" don't have any legally blind employees ...

IHateUncleJamie · 18/04/2019 15:50

My cousin is “legally blind” and VI and uses software so yes, she would “hear” what the email says. It is insensitive IMO.

ShannonRockallMalin · 18/04/2019 15:50

That would annoy me a bit at the moment, as I'm currently blind in one eye due to optic neuritis, a nerve condition. I can see with my other eye obviously but I'm really struggling to read small print and can't drive or work at the moment. It's really getting me down so it is a bit insensitive, yes.

HennyPennyHorror · 18/04/2019 15:53

I recently (today actually) got an email that began "Do you hate me Henny?"

Hmm

I immediately unsubscribed. It's a new low in "eye catching" headlines for email marketing.

Spaceunicorn6789 · 18/04/2019 17:43

Henny I hate those. Or when you click no to signing up to something and it says "oh so you hate saving money?" piss off.

The more I've looked at the email the more ive decided it's not right. So if I was legally blind I wouldn't want the 20% off home and furniture? I wonder if they've got a new marketing manager as I have noticed a huge increase in the volume of emails.

Is this a bit... Inappropriate or am I being sensitive?

Mayflowercurry · 18/04/2019 17:44

That is very strange!

bridgetreilly · 18/04/2019 17:45

That's vile. I would actually contact them to complain.

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 18/04/2019 18:08

It's already hitting twitter

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 18/04/2019 18:10

Very is investigating how it got approved

DGRossetti · 18/04/2019 18:21

Very is investigating how it got approved

I could tell them: casual disabilism ...

Spaceunicorn6789 · 18/04/2019 19:22

We want to sincerely apologise for any offence or distress our last email may have caused you.
The computer-generated message was the result of a technical fault in a new tool we’re currently testing.
Our internal processes should have picked this up before the email was sent to customers.
We’re now looking into how this happened and have put extra controls in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Thats an email I just got through from them. Computer generated message?!?!
