To ask if £600 is too much to give your teenager to go and buy holiday clothes?

Just wondering if I’m a bit out of touch. My son has just come back with his mate from a shopping trip in the city centre.

His mate (14) had £600 transferred into his bank account by his parents this morning to buy clothes for the holiday they are going on tomorrow.

I know the family are wealthy but even so isn’t that extortionate? He did actually spend all the money as he’s shown us all his purchases!

Just interested if this is a bit OTT or if I’m just mean! Or maybe people just spend what they can afford whether that’s a lot or not much 🤷‍♀️

Etino yes I take them. They wouldn’t go clothes shopping with their friends with £500, it would seem strange and probably ostracise them!
They’re hardly dripping in designer labels or sloganed T-shirt’s and hoodies for spending £500 on a winter wardrobe.
Of course there’s a middle ground but that will change from person to person.
This is what we have decided is our middle ground - somewhere between Primark and Chanel. Part of our job as parents is to adequately clothe our children and that doesn’t mean you have to always buy the cheapest of the cheap. I don’t begrudge spending money on them for clothes as they grow up.
Our oldest teen is 14 and has a job, she uses that money to save some and spend some.

I feel ill that im about to spend £400 on a holiday wardrobe which has been carefully preselected to make sure i can wear it as much as possible afterwards and that its genuinely well chosen but this will be my budget until September. I will possibly save money over the next few months so easy to burn £50 a month on clobber. Sadly ive put a lot of weight on and i want to feel comfortable. But at that age... Wow!
