To think my foot will be fine and I don't need to get it seen?

Sorry, shamelessly using AIBU for traffic. I am terrible at assessing health-related concerns, hoping someone can help me.

My foot has been hurting for about a week. I think I twisted it while out running, didn't really think anything of it at the time but it's still sore.

I'm not in agony or anything, I can move it and walk on it (but it does make me limp a bit). It hurts on the outer part at the top, is a little puffy but not really swollen, a little tender to touch but not hugely painful. It does hurt a fair bit when I walk on it though.

I'd know if I had done any real damage, right?

I'd get it checked out if it's still hurting after a week.

Not necessarily, there are plenty little bones and things in your foot that you can damage without really knowing. The fact it's still sore should be enough to at least get it checked by someone who knows what they are feeling for. Get a GP appointment, they might refer you for an x-ray just to be sure.

A week isn't long enough to heal from a muscle strain if you twisted it during running - personally I wouldn't be worried - give it another few days (and rest it) and see how you are. It should slowly improve!

I'm not convinced 'they' could do anything for your foot.

I had a very similar situation I left it and eventually got seen 6 weeks later after no improvement ... end result was a hairline fracture and I can't remember what else but I now can only ever wear flat shoes ... heels cause me agony! it's not a major issue to most but i do miss being able to dress up properly for a night out as heels were a big part of that for me

I hurt my hand a couple of weeks ago and, after much nagging from DP, got it x-rayed this week. Its broken. You should get your foot checked, if nothing is seen you haven't lost anything but if there is damage and it heals incorrectly you could have issues later too (arthritis etc)

allkilla · 17/04/2019 18:43

Also my hand is healing nicely but it was pointed out to me that I was lucky this was the case after having no medical intervention for 2+ weeks and continuing to use it as normal. I also dismissed damage as I didn't think it hurt 'enough'.

Thanks for all the responses.

I'm going to visit relatives in another part of the country tomorrow, so looking at whether I can get it seen before I go. It's a nightmare trying to get a GP appointment, but I may be able to get to a minor injuries clinic. It's either that or wait till Tuesday.

A GP will most likely just send you to a minor injuries clinic or A&E. If there is any suspicion you have broken one of the many tiny bones in your foot then you will need an x-ray.
I'm not convinced 'they' could do anything for your foot
Knowing whether there is a break - or not - would be helpful in itself.

Thanks Silver.
