to ask what your boys are wearing to prom, and how much you expect to pay?

DS1 is thinking of a 1950s look (to go with his friends, one has bought a magnificent circle skirt which will look fab).

There's a vintage shop in town that will have great stuff but it won't be cheap. Or we could hire something.

What are your Y11 boys wearing, and how much are you shelling out for it?

I would expect to buy a suits, shirt and tie and new shoes from a place like Next? So I guess see how much that would cost you for a 16 yr old and use that as a guide if he wanted something from the vintage shop? X

A hire suit, apparently his dad took him to a shop last week and got it sorted.
I'd planned to buy a suit, thinking it could last him a few years - I think he has to usher growing, although who knows!
They also have Celebration Day on their last day in school before study leave where they generally wear suits, I asked him earlier what he was wearing to that but he just shrugged.

We bought both our boys a suit each from Next, was about £100 each. They borrowed a tie from their dad.

Duh, shirt, shoes etc hadn't even crossed my mind! Better speak to him again 🙂.

Just bought DS a lovely blue shiny-ish suit and waistcoat from Slaters. £125. Needs tie and shoes although may borrow dads. I cried when he put it on.

Standard suit, which he borrowed, with shirt and tie we bought for around £20, and smart shoes he borrowed from his Dad. Friend he borrowed suit from put on weight, and loan has turned into a gift! I put out a plea on Facebook to borrow a suit as I thought he would only wear it once and then grow out of it, but actually his weight and height have been stable the last 3 years. He wore same suit with new shirt to Y 13 prom too, and this time we also bought smart shoes at around £50 as he is now at university and needs them for formals and interviews and can't borrow from DH for the evening.

50's style sounds great, but I would try to borrow if I didn't think it would get worn again.

Levis, tan and tweed dressed shoes, deep burgundy shirt , brown tweed with blue lines in jacket and waistcoat blue pocket hankie. I would say he does have long hair and this is his style. As he already had all this for a wedding recently it's a cheap prom for me

We bought him a suit, shirt, tie in the closing down sale at BHS, which he then wore for sixth form. Total cost: approx £90.

We've also been happy with the suit we bought him from Next.
