What do i do? Nursery

Posting for traffic because im desperate for advice.
Im a first time mum to DD aged 3.
Ive think ive made a massive fuck up! I didnt apply for a school nursery place!
What do i do now? Im worried about her missing out now because i didnt realise when i needed to apply which seems obvious now.
She currently attends a private nursery 3 mornings a week but im worried about her going from 3 mornings to 5 days in reception and theres no possible way we can afford more sessions.
What should i do now? Any advice?
I feel like i should have got a letter or something to tell me when to apply

Have you contacted any school nurseries to see if there's space? My daughter went straight from private nursery (3 full days) to school, as did lots of her friends.

dementedpixie · 17/04/2019 16:15

Does the private nursery offer funded hours?

KindergartenKop · 17/04/2019 16:15

You apply through the school. Pop in and see if they have any places left and get on the waiting list.
She will adapt to 5 days at school so it's not necessary to go to school nursery if you don't want her to.

dementedpixie · 17/04/2019 16:16

Your existing nursery may offer funded hours so ask them

PrincessDanae · 17/04/2019 16:17

I wouldn't worry. There were quite a few children who went from NO nursery straight to school when my DSs started, and they coped. Schools are used to this, and generally are able to deal with it.

Your DD might be very tired for awhile, just make sure you don't have her doing loads of extracurricular things when she first starts, and she will adjust quickly.

I changed my mind last minute, and I mean lasssst minute to send my daughter to school nursery, wouldn’t have mattered either way for us cps she gets 30 hours funded anyway so she’s full time at school nursery too. I just wen tinto my sons’ school and asked. We are in the north though and never heard of anyone having a problem not getting into their desired school/swapping schools through the school year I know it’s different down south

My daughter is 4 and has only gone to private nursery as that fit in better with work hours. As the pre school is only school hours and term time and I work 4 days a week. It's not been a problem and she will go from 2 full days and 2 days with grandparents to school in September.
We got the 30 funded hours from when she was 3 so you should be able to do that at your nursery. Also I don't think they go to pre school for 5 days a week anyway.
If you work then her nursery will be best with the hours.

This is the website to apply for funded childcare www.gov.uk/apply-30-hours-free-childcare

babysharkah · 17/04/2019 17:40

There are no school nurseries where I live. Mine went from 3 mornings in preschool / playgroup to school.

BlueBuilding · 17/04/2019 17:45

Honestly it'll be fine, you haven't messed up anything. Smile

I teach Reception and you can't tell who's been to nursery and who hasn't, there is no standout difference. Your DD will adjust and settle into full-time school just as well.

Also my DS only does 3 mornings at his school nursery, didn't even occur to me that this could be an 'issue'.

You spending time with her, reading, drawing and exploring is all that really matters.

WidowTwonky · 17/04/2019 17:45

School nursery is not compulsory. Don’t worry. Unless you want her to attend a different nursery then you’ve not messed up

NannyR · 17/04/2019 17:47

I suspect its not the same all over the country, but where we are (large northern city) its very easy to get a school nursery place - very few of them are full and all of them advertise their places and funding year round on banners outside the school. Maybe call a couple and see what the situation is, I don't think there is an application deadline like there is for primary schools.

Dodgylooking · 17/04/2019 17:54

Thanks BlueBuilding that does make me feel alot better. I feel like ive let her down. I dont go to work so we spend all her time outside of nursery doing activities and things

We dont qualify for 30 hours just the normal 15 and live just outside of london so nursery is £33 a morning

My dd went from three mornings a week preschool to school and was absolutely fine. I positively chose for her to have her two days off as I wanted to make the most of the time I had with her before she started school. Being in a school nursery also makes no difference in terms of whether a child gets a place in that school in case you were worried about that.
