AIBU to ask how long each day? I’m getting varying reports of some dc doing 8 hours a day some doing an hour a day.

What are your dc doing?

Not got kids, but I am a teacher.
8 hours a day is excessive and may do more harm than good.
They should have regular breaks, and id be insisting that means complete days off this holiday as well.
Maybe 9-3 (like a school day), changing topic as they would lesson? Lots more breaks though!

between 4-6 hours most but not all days...

Most days she does 9.30 - 11.30 then a break of 30 mins then 12 - 2pm then a break for an hour then 3-5pm*

But some days we've gone out for a longer lunch (change of scenery as much as anything) or the final 2 hour slot has been watching a tv programme/movie related to the subject.

*times are approximate obviously - this is a teenage girl so time is a fluid concept!!

I think she's doing between 5-8 hours. I'm having to insist on breaks, and coming out and doing stuff with us sometimes, and also that she fuels herself properly. This was a hell of a lot easier when she was a little kid, lol.

I’m going with a couple of hours morning, break, a couple of hours afternoon, break, dinner, a break, a quick look over before bed.

I wonder if it gets to the point where actually you can’t absorb anymore and it becomes white noise.

I think around 4-5.

This is actually the first time I have ever seen my son work hard. I'm so pleased.

I’m also trusting while I’m at work. I can’t look over him all the time.

Definitely. I try to emphasise to the kids I work with that they should be having a break every couple of hours, even if it's just to go downstairs and make a cup of tea. It becomes counterproductive otherwise.

8 hours a day is too much imo. That's longer than a normal school day. 4-5 hours a day should be plenty.

In my ds' case, not very much. But his school are running an Easter revision school this week for 3 hours a day over 3 days so at least he is getting something done and in his weaker subjects. The rest of the time I doubt he's done much more than an hour a day.

To be fair, when I did mine (and the exams started later) I didn't start revising until May half term. DH on the other hand started in January. I got better grades than he did, but I did GCSEs and he did O levels.

About 6 hours a day but with some days being less because of deliberately planned breaks or time out for sport etc.
