36wk scan reintroduced

Opening a champagne bottle here!!!

Colleagues in Cambridge finally persuaded the government to reintroduce the 36 week scan for feral position!!! Yaaahooo!!!!

Took the effort of a lot of people across the country and if any of them are reading this, you know who you are, I am using this opportunity to say a massive thank you!!!

The idea is to check for breach position at 36wks, when the chances for spontaneous turning are quite slim, and to aim for an elective CS to prevent traumatic birth and up to 8 neonatal deaths per year. With a bit of luck, this will include macrosomic babies too.

That is fantastic! Well done!! No woman should have to go through the agony of losing a baby when it could be prevented.

Well done and thank you!

Will this be rolled out equally across all NHS trusts straight away? I'm aware a few already are but I know that my trust wasn't doing it last time I checked (1 week ago at 16week app).

I agree, brilliant news and if it saves the life of 1 baby it's worth it.

It’s been on the cards for a while but im very glad this is happening for future women. I have a few friends that had a breach noticed at the last minute that would have benefited.

Great idea. Hopefully it's rolled out across more areas.

The BBC article on it reads as though it's looking likely if they can keep costs down to below £20/£13 per person, not that it's a given yet

That's fantastic news. Luckily DS2 was an elective c section but he was a breech baby, only found out during the surgery! I felt very thankful that I'd already decided on c section due to DS1 getting stuck, as a result causing severe internal tearing.

It did make me think, shit that was lucky. If I'd gone for the natural labour that I was being cornered into by the Vbac midwife that we could have been in serious trouble.

This is great news!

This is great news! DD1 was a missed breech. It was only picked up when I was in early labour, I'd been niggling on all night with regular contractions but not progressing so went to MW drop-in session to ask for a sweep to try and move things along, MW doing the drop-in realised she was breech and packed me off to hospital. The hospital used a handheld scanner to check position and confirm it, possibly the same type of scanner they're talking about introducing? It looked a bit like a Doppler but had a screen.
