Hello,

My Daughter will attend nurser 9-3 mondays and friday year round.

They’ve split the 15 hours funding to 10 year round for 50 weeks.

It’s £202 a month for 1 day 9-3,

I’m being charged £219, as they just added two days together and deducting the government fee of £178 !! Surely this isn’t right.... they’re charging me for the shortfall in the hourly rate...

I expected a charge of 2 extra hours 10 funded plus 2 extra used every week for 50 weeks....

Also they said no extra charge for meals etc as of yet...

Just doing 9-3 session as that is their community school day session ;)

They don’t do just a morning or afternoon like 9-12 or 12-3,

The reason for ringing the LA to enquire is because a friend of mine, hers take off the 15 hours off her with funding and she just pays for each extra hour.

So she does 20 hours, her funding covers 15 and she pays 5 each week.

Mine are taking the monetary value off and not the 15 hours so in effect I am paying for 7 hours extra even thought i’m using 3 under the 15 hours.

I totally get the system is screwed and the government underfund. It would just be helpful to be told of this and that’s why they do it.

Doesn't sound right then if that is a set session that they do. Definitely phone up!

I think you need to just ask them for a clear breakdown.
There’s some information on this tread which doesn’t apply to all nurseries - ie about the number of days you need to do to be eligible for all the government funding - these stipulations are made by different nurseries and are not standard.
I’ve used 3 different nurseries and they all had different ways of calculating fees

Contrary to popular belief, top ups are allowed by some councils (ours does for example- otherwise nobody would offer the „free“ hours as they are paid £2.50 below average cost of childcare ....).
Also most nurseries etc have a number of places that allow 30 hours, and a number that allow 15 hours. Its first come, first serve.
It sounds as if your friend has one of the (very rare) fully subsidised placed, and you got a top up place.
