Disturbing random text, police aren't interested.

Today I recieved a text from a random mobile number it reads:

"Hi. I am looking for a young girl. Maybe you know someone or have a sister or kid"

At first I thought it was someone trying to "prank call/text" me but I thought who in their right minds would pretend to act like a peadophile as a joke. So me thinking it might be someone I know text back to say no but their mobile number and message will now go on my social media (trying to scare then into admitting who they are and tell me not to) they just said "let me know where I'll have a look" creep.. so I then got suspicious.

I sent a screenshot to my family chat and said it was weird, aakes them to check the number to see if it showed on anyones contacts, asked my friend who was here at the time to check too. But nothing came up I googled the mobile number and nothing came up.

A family member suggested 141 ans calling the number, I did this and what sounded like a grown man answered, he sounded older with an Asian accent..

I freaked out and hung up, then 141 called again and said I may have dialled the wrong person and asked who it was. They was having none of it and hung up.

So I popped into the local police station with the text and explained what had happened, that I thought it was a friend dicking around but when called a grown man answered.

Person at the window at the police station just said ignore it there nothing they can do. They didnt even take the phone number? She read the message and just told me to ignore it.

AIBU to think they should have at least taken the number down? What if this is a genuine peadophile? I feel sick to my stomach thinking someone could actually want to find a young girl and isn't shy about texting random numbers to get there.

“An older man with an Asian accent”
🙄

That would freak me out too of course, but you have to try and talk yourself down from where your brain is taking you.

Could be so many other things as you have received this random text with no context. I’d say it’s most likely someone typed in a phone number with one number wrong, and you got a text which might have been awful yes, but equally might not have been.

Without context you just don’t know. I suspect the probabilities are it’s not the awful reason you are thinking.

Could be a paperboy, child model, actor, plant waterer, cat / hamster / fish feeder, dog walker, voice over, dance partner, bridesmaid or officiant in any kind of church service / country dancing troupe / scouts or local cultural fair, charity event etc... see that’s 1 minute of me thinking!

Keep yourself from spiralling, now you’ve done everything you can.

Oh come off it, do you really think that if someone was looking for young females to sexually abuse, they'd start texting random numbers asking if you had a sister or child?

However, given the man's accent, I suggest you report this incident to Tommy Robinson himself or your nearest 'Get Rid off Aslan in Are Cuntree' facebook group.

Maybe posting in AIBU wasnt the brightest idea as all the snowflakes will come and be offended by me stating the man has an Asian accent(fact) and immediately jump on the r@sism train.

I will never understand how describing a person became so utterly offensive.

A couple of years ago I received a text with a photo attached of a bloodied body on a beach. The message said "I know where you live". I messaged back "who is this" and got "you know, I'm watching you" (or words to that effect, I can't remember the exact wording now). I was freaked out and went up to the police station. They said not to worry unduly since I didn't have anyone who I knew wanted to hurt me or anything but they ran a check on the number and it turns out it was kids that pranked the wrong number. They got a bollocking for it and I got a very apologetic message later. So, misaimed pranks can happen.
