To do roast pork for Easter lunch?

Bakingberry · 15/04/2019 19:40

I'm doing Easter lunch for some family this weekend. I know there are some fussy eaters that don't like lamb and I need a change from chicken.

I was going to do roast pork but a friend at work said it was an unusual choice for Easter.

AIBU to serve pork??

OP posts:

Of course not, if you like it.

agnurse · 15/04/2019 19:45

Why not? Hams are quite popular so I don't see that roast pork would be an issue.

Purpleartichoke · 15/04/2019 19:45

I’m in the US. ham is the traditional Easter main.

Chouetted · 15/04/2019 19:45

Not quite as symbolic perhaps, but that's fine.

ThriftyMcThrifty · 15/04/2019 19:45

Why not? I perhaps wouldn’t serve rabbit... but I think any kind of meat is fine. Ham is the usual choice where I am in America.

SpriggyTheHedgehog · 15/04/2019 19:47

Pork is fine. I don't know anyone who has a special Easter meal, it isn't much of a thing here, so I'm no expert, but I see nothing wrong with serving it if that's what you'd prefer.

agnurse · 15/04/2019 19:50

Indeed, no rabbit. Especially if there are kids. They might think they were eating the Easter bunny.

ForalltheSaints · 15/04/2019 19:52

YANBU. Just remember there will be mass panic on Saturday afternoon as people will stock up as shops are shut on Easter Sunday, so go early for your shopping.

daisypond · 15/04/2019 19:52

Why shouldn’t you have pork if you want? It’s fine. Or rabbit if you want that .

MyNewBearTotoro · 15/04/2019 19:57

Lamb seems a strange choice for me when so much of Easter seems to be centred around pictures of cute fluffy lambs. I completely go off lamb at this time of year.

Pork seems a fine choice.

Chouetted · 15/04/2019 20:00

Lamb is traditional because Jesus is the 'lamb of God' - quite logical for Easter (if you know the story). It draws on imagery from the Jewish Pesach.

SoyDora · 15/04/2019 20:00

Eat what you want, when you want! Why wouldn’t you?

KarmaStar · 15/04/2019 20:01

Nut roast is lovely too!😉🌼

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/04/2019 20:03

Seriously. Why would you give a second thought to what someone at work said?

sweeneytoddsrazor · 15/04/2019 20:03

The weather is supposed to be very good, get the bbq out Grin

tillytrotter1 · 16/04/2019 21:20

OH took our two into the market and pointed out all of the Easter bunnies hanging up.

managedmis · 16/04/2019 21:23

I do not understand this whole tradition thing for Easter, must be this, must be that, etc.

Who gives a shit? Eat what you please

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 16/04/2019 21:30

What don’t you understand about it? Lamb is the trad thing for Easter lunch, like turkey or goose are for Christmas. Not sure why that’s hard to understand.

And she said a friend at work. So not just some random.

Obviously the OP can cook what she likes and pork is delicious. But I’m baffled at some people’s comprehension skills sometimes.

lauryloo · 16/04/2019 21:32

I'm doing turkey - really looking forward to it. Ds was unwell at Christmas so we are having a do -over of our Christmas dinner

ClashCityRocker · 16/04/2019 21:35

Thinking about it, we used to have turkey for Easter dinner... 🤔.

Iloveacurry · 16/04/2019 21:36

Eat what you want.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 16/04/2019 21:36

Shops are only shut in England though

Sizeofalentil · 16/04/2019 21:40

Lidl have turkey in at the moment if you fancy that

ShitAtScarbble · 16/04/2019 21:42

I am perplexed as to why this question even needs to be asked. Why? Who cares what someone at work said - why does their opinion impact you at all? Just roast whatever you want to roast - or don't if that's your choice.
Who needs anyone's approval for this stuff?

Raspberrytruffle · 16/04/2019 22:18

Easter lunch is whatever you want, we usually do lamb at Easter as its expensive and a rare treat a proper leg of lamb from the butchers. This year we still have meat left over from our Christmas hamper so it will be a Turkey crown wrapped in bacon and a small half leg of lamb , yum Smile
