That in a world where we are trying to reduce plastic waste...

I cannot find anywhere the whole top part for baby milk bottles.
I need to buy the hard plastic bit that screws on (usually the coloured bit) and the teat. I have the bottle itself but just need the top.
I can find the replacement teats but not the whole top bit. Argh!

(I do realise this is a bit of a first world problem but I do try to be waste conscious and this is upsetting me a bit).

I feel begrudged at potentially throwing away seven perfectly fine plastic bottles and having to re-buy a whole new bottle, it's so wasteful Sad

Does anyone know if there is anywhere that sells what I'm looking for? Or do I have to just give in and throw away the perfectly fine (apart from not having a top) bottles?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Could you buy some second hand bottle and just use the bits you need?

minisoksmakehardwork · 15/04/2019 10:36

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer.

I think I'd go down the second hand route and sterilising as at least I wouldn't be buying brand new. But I appreciate you may feel that this is no better as you still don't need the whole thing.

QuestionableMouse · 15/04/2019 10:37

Try the manufacturer's website. Some bottles are also recyclable.

slowdownplease · 15/04/2019 10:49

What type of bottles are you using?

PengThePenguin · 15/04/2019 11:02

Thanks for ideas, to answer some questions -

I think second hand may be the lesser evil of the options, I'll look into this.

I have some Tommee Tippee bottles, the smaller ones and larger but they both have the same size lid.
I also have some non branded tall ones, think the ones you can buy from the supermarket with animals on.

Maybe I could repurpose the old ones into very small vases Grin

Wonder if you posted on FB asking for anyone's old screw rings/tears, or if you got the rings you could buy new teats if you preferred.

fitzbilly · 15/04/2019 11:05

What happened to the tops that means your don't have any but have the bottles? Where are the original tops?

PengThePenguin · 15/04/2019 11:05

That's a good idea, I didn't think of that.
Just to add, I've not contacted manufacturer, I'll do that later Smile

You can buy bits for Avent stuff direct from Philips. Not sure about others, I needed a lid for a mam bottle so ended up buying a whole bottle Hmm

Tommee tippee you need to contact to get parts

I needed a lid for a mam bottle, ended up buying a whole bottle because it was easier and quicker (was in the middle of bottle refusing and saw some light at the end of the tunnel) but they do sell them on their website.

Sorry for the (slightly different) double post

PengThePenguin · 15/04/2019 11:22

Ah that's brilliant @olderthanyouthink thank you so much! I'll give them a call. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Just tang Tommee Tippee, sadly they don't have the bit I need Sad they only have the teat on the actual lid. Gah! I shall keep trying.

Do you have a local Facebook page? You could ask on there. I know I have a big bag of bottles in the loft that is happy give to someone who needed them (I could post them to you!)

GregoryPeckingDuck · 15/04/2019 12:09

You could just share the top bits between the bottles.

cakeandchampagne · 15/04/2019 12:15

Maybe you could donate the bottles to a shelter or shop, so someone who has tops (but less money) can use them.

PengThePenguin · 15/04/2019 13:34

Ah @fitzbilly that would be wonderful if you wouldn't mind? That's really kind. Shall I send you a message with my address?

I think I'll see if a shelter would like them, that's a lovely idea and much better than them ending up in landfill for forever and a day.
