To ask what to buy a 10 year old boy

DD sits next to a boy who she’s become quite good friends with. It’s his birthday on Wednesday and she is no help whatsoever with what to get him as a gift.

I know all of her other friends but I haven’t yet spent much time with this one so have no idea of what kind of stuff he likes. I know he likes football and doesn’t read much, but beyond that I have no idea.

What would you buy?

At 10 yrs I would throw £10 into a card or wrap a fiver around a wrapped up chocolate bar.

I second money .

AnnieMay100 · 14/04/2019 19:48

Money, gift card or a book

Yabbers · 14/04/2019 20:03

Yeah, that will be my fall back. Did want to do a gift if possible!

A joke book, one of those brain teaser type puzzles, particularly impressive water pistol?

Mintychoc1 · 14/04/2019 20:08

How much do you want to spend?

lljkk · 14/04/2019 20:14

Is she going to a party for him? it's odd to buy a gift for a casual friend when it's not even a party. Puts an awkward obligation on him to buy a gift back, too.

Leeds2 · 14/04/2019 20:16

If she knows his favourite team, a football mug, or scarf.

1busybee · 14/04/2019 20:30

Joke book is a great idea. Extreme space balls are great for boys of that age....and under £5. I’ve given one of those balls and a bag of haribo or similar and it’s gone down well! Decathlon do some nice kites for under £10

Yabbers · 14/04/2019 23:49

Looking for about a tenner.

@lljkk He is coming to DD's party in a couple of weeks so I'd assume he would be bringing a gift.

Plus, exchanging gifts amongst close friends isn't unusual surely?

@1busybee

Ooh! Kite! That's a good one.

National Geographic joke/ facts books are just brilliant- bought some for my 10 year old nephew recently. Aldi were doing them for £4 instead of £8.

GAME voucher/ Sports shop voucher- since he's into football. My DS (12) got these fake snowballs- about 25 in a zip bag that they all throw at each other- they feel like squishy snow but are dry, hard to explain, from a friend for his bday and they are brilliant, the best present ever. Think about £12 on Amazon. HTH.

Yes kites go down quite well with energetic boys!!
