So my dream of all time is to own one

For 3 adults a baby and dogs if possible

Have no idea where to start
Some I have seen are so old - what about engine trouble??

Anyone know the best sites to look up or for a decent mid size one what I can realistically expect to pay??

Thanks for help if anyone can please please

Don't get one too big as you'll regret it. Some of the smaller ones have absolutely heaps of stuff in them. A friend sold their relatively new mid size for a small, and it came with drop down TVs and beds, a small but perfect kitchen and a tiny bathroom.

Older transits mk3/4 are good workhorses engines go for ever check damp rust. Lots of spares about had a gearbox go on one replacement was only £120 and can be fitted in 2hours by garage. Done one myself took a bit longer and it’s heavy. Check some out and do not hand over any money until you have the keys and are ready to drive away.
Expect to pay £2-10k for one depending on condition.
Van conversion may be a squeeze and coach built may not have the seats you need. You need to hunt around.

Main things you’ll need are
A toilet ( don’t bother with shower sites have them)
Cooker
Sink
Enough beds.

Do you want a camper van, or a motorhome? With 3 adults, a baby, (who will soon be bigger) and a dog, a camper will be very cramped, so a motorhome would be more suitable.

I follow a few people on YouTube. Do a search for A Bus and Beyond, who have a VW California, and for motorhomes Bob Earnshaw is good. He has videos on what to look for when buying secondhand, and all sorts of other helpful stuff. Another good channel is Andrew Ditton's. He has an Airstream Caravan, but sometimes reviews camper vans and motorhomes, and also does videos on living simply. He also has a lovely little dog called Dougal, who is the star of the show!

You can tow a small car with a motorhome too, which is what Bob Earnshaw sometimes does. That way, you can leave the motorhome on site, when you want to go out and about.

We got a massive motorhome and it was a bloody nightmare. Driving anywhere in it was awful. It was a good idea but not one to be repeated. We have a caravan now.
If we were fewer people I would buy a small camper but there are 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a 7 yr old so we need the space

I have a VW T25 and love it! We have a high top which gives you more room and we have had a gas conversion to run on lpg, which makes it more affordable. If you are interested in a T25 then I suggest having a look at the online group, Club 80 90. A great source of information.
