Carpet fitting.. ffs!

Previous tenants lived in a Hovel, and the upstairs carpets are covered in grime and urine. 🤢 anyway!

We have in one room, a bed, a chest of drawers, a wardrobe (landlords)

In the other is a dressing table, tall chest of drawers and a 7 foot book case.

The landlord has decided to replace the skanky carpets so that's good but the fitters need the entire room empty to fit the carpet, and they have 1 day.

How the fuck can I move all the furniture from one room and back again for them to fit the carpets? On that floor there is also the bathroom and then up another flight of stairs to our room. DH can't get Tuesday off work so it will just be me doing it.

Please help me!

Surely the fitters can move the furniture?
I’ve had many a new carpet and never had to clear the room

Alicewond · 14/04/2019 02:21

Do they come apart? It doesn’t seem like much furniture to rearrange, would the fitters help though if you needed?

NewYoiker · 14/04/2019 02:24

The guy on the phone did say it would be my job to sort out. The bed comes apart but everything else doesn't.

The issue is with the wardrobe in the room
With the bed. As it's not ours and very rickety, if it falls apart it's on me.

Can you not move everything into one room and call on the good nature of the fitters for the move to room 2 - alternatively give up on the bed and call it a day, assuming its not great to sleep on if it falls apart in one move.

OldAndWornOut · 14/04/2019 02:30

Could you do it on the Monday night, so your husband can help?
You could sleep on the mattress on the floor. Not ideal, but better than lugging all the furniture around on your own.

It's a spare room so we're going to dismantle the bed tomorrow. I'm going to ask a friend if they'll help me, and I'll pay in bacon sandwiches

I'm pretty certain if you empty everything (Wardrobe), strip the bedding - if possible drag the mattress off and out. I'm sure the fitters will appreciate what you've done and will sort.

Just keep the tea and biscuits flowing!

We always spoil tradesmen - bacon butties and mugs of tea.
Keep them happy and I'm sure they'll look after you.
