To wonder how I can be expected to pay this amount of money?

Work need me to go on a training course.

It's 1.5 hours by car but 3.5 hours by train.

The train fees are £77.50 each way (work pay for a hotel if you'd have to leave before 6.30am to get there when it starts).

So, I'll have to pay around £160! Just to get there and back.

I can't afford this. It's a new job that I've just got so I'm really worried about bringing this up. I already had difficulty securely my offer due to a mix up but that's another story.

AIBU to wonder how I can be expected to pay this?

As others have said, your employer should be booking and paying for your tickets when the cost is this much.

You won't have to pay
You are worrying needlessly ask you employer to pay .

edwinbear · 13/04/2019 23:23

OP of course they will pay. You simply ask your line manager who organises my train tickets? She will point you in the direction of the admin team or corporate travel.

Travel expenses are reimbursed if it's part of your job, but I've never worked anywhere in recent years that gives advances , you always wait 4-6 weeks to get it back.

In the company I used to work, we expected more senior staff to submit expenses and by reimbursed monthly, in the usual way.

However our more junior staff really struggled with this, so we ended up giving them a float on joining.
