About those wee electric shocks you get when you touch things/people?

I know this sounds absolutely batshit. I know.

But i seem to get these constantly and it’s actually getting me down! I feel like every time I touch anything I get a shock! It doesn’t seem to matter what I’m wearing or where I am.

It’s worst at work. Every time I touch the printer for example. It just happens all the time.

I don’t know why it’s getting to me so much it’s such a minor thing.

Well. Tbh if I touched electric equipment and felt shock, I would be very concerned Shock

As far as I know your constant shocks can be cause by higher humidity in the air.

thiscannotbenormal · 13/04/2019 10:42

YES.

I get this all the time.

DizzyPhillips · 13/04/2019 10:42

It just happened when I lifted DD2 out of her car seat and touched the rubber door seal. I just felt an inward “argh” 🙄

Or wearing synthetic fabrics. When I wore Crocs (Blush) I got static shocks from everything.

IHateUncleJamie · 13/04/2019 10:42

Nylon carpets, synthetic clothing, a build-up of static. I used to get it all the time at work and it drove me mad. My new wheelchair did it as well so in a shopping centre for example, nobody could touch me without getting a shock.

At work they gave me an antistatic mat for under my chair. That helped a bit. My DH has made copper strands that trail across the floor under my wheelchair to discharge the static. Grin

Can you wear different shoes and cotton clothes?

Thisisthelaststraw · 13/04/2019 10:43

Same shoes every time? I’ve no idea if it’s true but apparently the type of shoe you wear has some bearing on it Confused

Awrite · 13/04/2019 10:43

I get them too. I close my car door by pushing the window.

AngeloMysterioso · 13/04/2019 10:44

I hate static shocks.

Trying wearing only natural fibre clothes, I know I tend to get them more when I have nylon/polyester clothing on, even if it’s just my underwear!

IHateUncleJamie · 13/04/2019 10:44

Lol sorry about the length of the hyperlink!

Thisisthelaststraw · 13/04/2019 10:44

Cross posts. So there is some truth to it. Interesting.

ItchySeveredFoot · 13/04/2019 10:44

This has recently started happening to me when I get in and out of the car! I haven't changed anything so it's just randomly started happening.
DP refuses to go into our local BM bargains because he gets a shock from everything. It was actually starting to get nervous and panicky.

hidinginthenightgarden · 13/04/2019 10:48

I get this loads. A certain pair of shoes is the main culprit and woolen cardy.

museumum · 13/04/2019 10:50

I get it when I get out the car I’m running or gym leggings.
Wear more natural fibres if you want to stop it.

Mamabearx4 · 13/04/2019 10:51

Car, trolleys pressing the button to call a lift, mainly happens when its warm/hot.

Excited101 · 13/04/2019 10:52

Don’t ever go to Vegas Op, I started refusing to touch anything, had to get dp to open doors, call for lifts, etc. It was constant!

BarkandCheese · 13/04/2019 10:54

Very dry weather makes it worse. I used to think it was just cold dry weather, then I went to Las Vegas and got shocks off everything.

msannabella · 13/04/2019 11:02

This seems to happen to me all the time. Whenever I touch a lift button or get out the car. I wonder whether some people are more electrically charged than others. Weirdly when I touch a phone or tablet or something that's plugged in I can feel the vibration of the electricity going through it. My husband thinks I'm insane cos he can't feel it!

meepmoop · 13/04/2019 11:07

I nearly posted about this the other day, every single time I get out of the car I get a shock

I thought I was being clever by shutting the door by the window and then got a shock of the hedge I bumped into. I also get shocked but keys in the door if I shut the car by the window.

I think I'm faulty

MongerTruffle · 13/04/2019 11:14

Weirdly when I touch a phone or tablet or something that's plugged in I can feel the vibration of the electricity going through it.

That happens with all aluminium devices that aren't earthed (it's very strong on my MacBook Pro). Some people are more sensitive to it than others.

PottyPotterer · 13/04/2019 11:14

I get them too. I close my car door by pushing the window.

Me too. Dread if I need to get something out the back door. I get a shock every single time I get out of my car and do this thing where I hit the car quickly and lightly to get the shock out of the way. It's ridiculous really.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 13/04/2019 11:15

I get them at work if I wear a certain pair of boots. I have to touch wood before anything metal (so I touch worktop before tap, and door before handle)

For cars, open door > touch metal doorframe > put feet on ground.

GarthFunkel · 13/04/2019 11:15

My fitflops cause this.

DizzyPhillips · 13/04/2019 11:26

Oh I feel the vibration from a charging device too!

Car before last was 1st gen Citroen Picasso. Every single time I touched it. Same for a friend who had one too.
