Ordering takeaway to hotel

Ribrabrob · 13/04/2019 00:11

I'm staying in a hotel tomorrow on my own and plan to have a super relaxed evening - good film on Netflix, a nice book, some chocolate and possibly a takeaway but I can't decide if that's a little bit ur?!

The hotel isn't in a town centre so the takeaway would need to be delivered to the hotel - is that normal? Have any of you ever had takeaway delivered to a hotel before? Would I need to collect from reception and would it be considered a bit odd? I don't want staff to think I'm rude expecting them to take my delivery in (I'll pay online beforehand though).

If it's not ok I'll just get room service but not quite the same is it!

Always ask the staff for a recommendation! They know the local take outs better than you! I’ve done this a lot including popping to hotel restaurant for cutlery and sauces!
Good hotels want to please you, bad ones will u sweat and why you aren’t eating there! 😬

@HoppingPavlova

Sure, room service is available for double the price of a takeaway at least. Plus a tray charge of up to £5.

A takeaway will generally cost me under £20 and last me for at least 2 meals whereas a room service meal will be £30 minimum and I'll minimum last for 1 meal.

There is a fairly expensive boutique hotel chain that rely on you getting take aways they have chosen not to have kitchens and put kitchenettes in all of their bedrooms with a fridge and microwave and they've linked up with deliveroo and another delivery company and ypu order through the TVs in your room

Sure, it’s double the price but my preference is to eat off a plate rather than out of a takeaway container especially if having dishes where rice is required as the base etc. Faffing around trying to get half the rice out (putting it???) and filling up the other half with a sauce based dish then tipping the rice that you have held god knows where into the other container so you can have it the next night. Or maybe just ordering something like spag bol without the need to faff around? If you don’t mind having to negotiate all of that then I guess it’s the go?

If I go away with work then obviously I don’t care as they foot the bill. If I travel for recreation then I just build it into the anticipated cost. When the kids were young our usual holiday involved a 10hr drive. I definitely built in room service for the evening we arrived as part of the anticipated cost. No way I was taking ratty kids out to eat or faffing around looking at takeaway menus. Used to sit the kids (young) on the beds to eat and made them sit on those pristine white towels they give you in fear they would get food all over the pristine white bedspreadsGrin. DH and I would eat at the trolley they bring the food on which turns into a fold out table. Then I’d ring to say dishes/table was outside the door along with some filthy white towels and so we needed replacements delivered when dishes were collectedGrin. Kids still hold this tradition as a fond memory.

I’ve never had takeaway sent to the hotel but have often brought it in myself. Was surprised, when staying in a fancy Swiss-owned hotel in Morocco, to learn that outside food was banned. I’ve seen that in lower-end hotels in the UK too.

don’t understand why you wouldn’t just use room service

Presumably OP is considering a take out because she wants to eat that parrot food rather then from the hotel menu!

Bunbunbunny · 13/04/2019 11:04

I've done it with Nandos before as room services was so expensive & I didn't fancy anything on the menu. I thinks it's quite common to do now as I saw lots of deliveroos arriving

Dramatical · 13/04/2019 11:10

Parrot food Blush

*that KIND OF food.

SimonJT · 13/04/2019 11:11

I have done it many times, if you call reception they will usually have it delivered to your room with crockery and cutlery.

ForalltheSaints · 13/04/2019 11:24

Is there not somewhere local to eat? Get out of the hotel for an hour or so.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 13/04/2019 11:35

This is my dream! A night away to myself, nice hot bath, glass of wine,
Netflix and a pizza! Topped off with a lovely lie in and a swim the next morning ! Some day🤩

I'm sure OP asked about takeAway because they want takeAway. Not suggestion of what to do.

cantthinkofanythingwitty · 13/04/2019 11:48

I used to work on reception and this happened a lot. In the end the takeaway would bring me food too if someone ordered with them Grin

jarviscockerslover · 13/04/2019 12:21

I travel a lot for work and always get takeaway's delivered to the hotel mainly from Uber eats. Just make a note when you're doing the order that you want the delivery up to your room otherwise they'll call you from reception you need to come down and collect

SpoonBlender · 13/04/2019 12:30

I'm with Mitzi. Forever having to rewind movies in hotels when I get bored of them and become... distracted for a bit. Best part of the evening.
