Gallbladder Pain

Just looking for a hand hold really... I can't sleep as I'm having a gallbladder attack, a nasty one!

My usual 2 ibuprofen and 2 strong codeine which usually knock me out within an hour haven't made a dent. It's been 4 hours since the attack started and 3 since I took painkillers.

Would I BU to take more now, an hour early? I'm in so much pain and I'm exhausted Sad

I feel for you op, the pain is excruciating and just when you feel it can't get any worse...it does!!
Book in for gallbladder removal surgery as soon as you can.

Boopeedoop · 13/04/2019 00:22

I was ,23 when I had my gallbladder removed! You need to get seen. It could become infected, trigger pancreatitis, it can be very nasty indeed. It needs to go!

Ledkr · 13/04/2019 00:38

I used to find making myself sick would ease mine off but you don't want to do that now cos of your pain meds. It's horrible but the op is a doddle and a total cure

Nat6999 · 13/04/2019 00:38

I found the pain never went off until I had been sick. My GP prescribed Dihydracodeine, Buscopan & an anti sickness drug to help me keep down the painkillers. I must have spent hundreds of hours knelt on the stairs with a hot water bottle as I couldn't bear anything near my back when the pain was bad. I drank gallons of peppermint cordial with soda water to help me to burp to relieve the pain.

How are you doing OP?
Please be really careful I ended up with acute pancreatitis due to gallstones. I nearly died and had 12 days in icu and had part of my pancreas removed. When it started I thought it was just another flare up xx

Get the surgery booked, there will be a few months wait anyway x

Soda water is your friend when you get a gallstone attack. I had my gallbladder out in 2016 and I have never had such relief. The day after I had surgery and went home it felt like there was something missing that I couldn't quite explain. Then I realised, it was the pain that was missing. Even when I wasn't having an attack, the pain was always there in the background.
I was admitted into A&E a couple of times and given tramadol and oramorph. That seemed to work well too.
I hope that you can get surgery soon, as gallstones are awful to live with.

INeedToGetHealthy · 13/04/2019 02:06

This was my evil gallstone, that was lodged in the neck of my gallbladder.

It eventually goes on to explain that certain medications can exacerbate the symptoms and the pain

You have my deepest sympathy. I had mine out last year, and to be honest it wasn't that bad. In and out in a day, and if I didn't have a one year old who couldn't understand not climbing on me or wanting to be carried about, the recovery would have been very quick too.

I took lecithin capsules from Holland & Barrett, which made a world of difference when I had an attack. Have a Google, there are some studies done of their use with gallstones. I was already using them at a lower dose for blocked ducts in breastfeeding so just took extra if the GB started playing up and it worked wonders. I recommended it to my Grandma and she has found that it has helped her enormously too.

It wasn't just fat that set mine off, sugar free fizzy drinks did, and other things too. My Grandma found that when she had them she got just as much pain with very low fat diet as she did with high fat.

Could you afford about £300 and have your doc refer you to a surgeon for a private consultation. This gets you up the list, and then th e surgeon could put you on his NHS list. This is what my dh did. Surgeon might also work with you regarding dates that would suit.

As for omeprazole that's for acid reflux and works on the stomach . It has nothing to do with the gall bladder. If you had keyhole you'd be fit in no time.
