To hate periods so much

cadburyegg · 11/04/2019 20:44

Just started my second period in 2 years since DS2 was born a year ago. I was caught out yesterday whilst out.

I’m in pain, feel wobbly, achey, and have leaked over clothes. I feel generally fed up and emotional not to mention disgusting. Feel embarrassed to have been caught unprepared like a teenager.

AIBU to think that if men had periods they wouldn’t have the tolerance to put up with it?! I hate them so much!!

I’ve had them for 40 years, 40 years of cramps, leaking, several ruined holidays etc etc. I also hate that feeling of a ‘gush’ even though I’m tamponed up with a towel for extra protection too.
And I must have spent hundreds of pounds since 1978 to 🙁.

Kathsmum you're lucky, I'm on the pill and I'm still ill. The only difference is I can control when by running the packs together.

I don't think the doctor will prescribe me the pill again this year as I've put on weight so I'm going to have to look at something else as I can't bear the thought of feeling worse.

YANBU... but this a recent thing for me. I am 39 and until this year have had no real issues with period except for year or two when my cycle was off and I had them too frequently-but still they were always fairly light and painless and didn't have any emotional impact really.
Now they are Hugely painful and affect my mood terribly-but the worst thing is the flooding-i can't cope with with it at all.

We had to have my lovely Cat put down this week and as this was happening my period started proper (if had a bit of spotting earlier in the evening), in a huge flood to the point of near instant leakage from sanitary towel, as I stood in the bloody vets room holding his little paw. It was honestly one of the worst moments of my life!
I've been to the dr and he just said it was due to my time of life.

Feel your pain OP, coming to the end of my period this month and can’t wait for it to end. No matter how careful I am every month I find I have ruined a pair of pyjama pants and a bed sheet, I hate the throbbing feeling down there like everything is gonna fall out. I’m sick of the heavy ness of them and the stomach cramps, not had a minute to myself to curl up and cry about em either. Can’t take the pill due to high risk with family conditions and I had the implant taken out because I didn’t stop bleeding for months! Too much of a wuss for the coil Sad

ShaggyRug · 12/04/2019 08:05

I’m on the mini pill Desogestrel and have no periods. No side effects either. Bliss. Highly recommend it if it’s suitable for you.

OliviaBenson · 12/04/2019 09:49

I'm on the mini pill and have been bleeding everyday. I'm too high risk on the combined pill which was better. I'm sick of it.

It's a really defunct bit of kit!!

BrokenWing · 12/04/2019 09:55

50 and periods have been all over the place for the last year or so, current one is 3 weeks late and when it eventually unexpectedly comes (probably when I'm in the middle of leading a long meeting) I know it will be a tsunami.

dorisdog · 12/04/2019 10:05

I take the progesterone only pill. I actually take them for a different reason - they stop me getting mouth ulcer flare ups - turns out my almost constant painful mouth was hormone related! But also no periods. Amazing! Very slightly increased risk of breast cancer, but so slight that I just figured I'd adjust my lifestyle a little - more exercise, less alcohol, check breasts regularly.

BadPennyNoBiscuit · 12/04/2019 10:09

Yanbu. IDK if mine have stopped for good or if I'm going to unexpectedly flood. If I do get another one it might last 3 days or 3 weeks. I'm sick of having to wear a mini pad and carry more in my bag along with spare clothes and wet wipes and nappy sacks.

ALadyofLetters · 12/04/2019 10:15

I felt exactly like this and a lovely sympathetic female dr encouraged me to try the coil. It has been the most wonderful thing as my periods have stopped completely.

Fitting was like a smear and there were weeks of spotting but pantyliner stuff not huge clots like my periods.

I was really put off my horror stories but I can’t recommend one enough. No more planning weekends around unpredictable periods or that feeling of dread when you feel the clots.

Montsti · 12/04/2019 10:18

I also have the mirena and have no periods at all...life-changing for me...

Xenadog · 12/04/2019 10:29

I honestly think if men had periods there would be some sort of designated P days when you wouldn’t be expected to go to work, but could instead stay at home, eat chocolate and still be paid for it. Either that, or there would be a whole lot of money invested in trying to make periods easier to live with.

I am on Desogestrel (sp?) and only seem to have one break through bleed a year which is painless. I can’t ever imagine going back to the awful periods I used to have.

Sharkirasharkira · 12/04/2019 10:33

I'm another one for the Mirena. Had one for over 10 years and apart from a 3 month gap between changing from old one to new one I've had nothing that whole time. It's brilliant!! Not even spotting upon fitting, maybe a tiny bit on the first day but then nothing.

I appreciate I am probably one of the lucky ones and they aren't for everyone but seriously any mild side effects I've had from it have been utterly worth it to be period free for the last decade! Don't even have to think about it now until 2022 when I next get it changedGrin

Brilliantidiot · 12/04/2019 10:45

I'm fed up with it too. Thankfully mine are getting lighter, but some of the symptoms worse. The cold feeling no matter what I do, then the night sweats and headaches that wake me up. The feeling of rage then utter hopelessness. Tmi but the skin on my knicker line getting inflamed and raw for a few days before, no matter what underwear I try. Urge incontinence for a few days before, combined with 'period poo'. The pills, depo and implant over the years that have caused constant bleeding. Very effective as a contraceptive, not so good to actually live with. And the doctors that tell me it's all due to my mental health....... And refuse to even investigate it might be the other way around. Prozac as far as I know won't stop my skin turning red raw or me pissing myself.

Groovee · 12/04/2019 11:07

I had a womb ablation in 2017. Best thing ever. No more haemorrhaging as my periods were horrific. They put me on the mini pill prior to surgery. 6 months of daily haemorrhaging. I often went through 5 pairs of pants daily. It was just awful.
