I'm pregnant and really flagging now with chronic pain issues in my back and chest
I don't have too long left, say 10 weeks maximum.
I have got to spend more time laying down to try to take the pressure off my body which I've been doing too much with recently and made it really sore

My son is three, loves anything where I focus on him. He loves cooking food and reading. He loves TV (which I don't want to use all the time with him)
He goes to nursery so is well entertained but I want him to get some special focus from me.
What can I do with him in or on my bed that he might like?
Please don't suggest colouring because he is soooo messy!

Thank you

You could play games like I Spy. Count coins. Put nail varnish on his toes Grin. Write letters to friends/relatives - he dictates them and you write them, then he sticks a stamp on and posts it later with his dad.

Memory games with a tray where you put things on a tray and he has to remember what they are. Then he can do the same to you.

How about:
-One of those megasketcher drawing boards = clean drawing
-Reading together, you can also get those books like wheres wally where you have to look for a tiny item on each page so it takes a while

  • sticker books
  • fuzzy felt

Charades but of activities / things eg guess what sport he's pretending to do.
Toddler board games

Hospitals.

You are the patient and he gets to bandage your head.

The slightly warm and sticky smarties as medicine is entirely optional.Grin

Jigsaws.
An audio book, as a change from you reading.
Washing up bowl/baby bath full of water on the table so that he can float boats, pour etc.
Play musical instruments!
Teach him the words to some children's songs that he doesn't already know. Play you tube version of the same, and you can both sing along and he can dance.
Gets lots of balloons, and get him to try and keep them all up in the sir at once. You can help, should any come near you!
Bubbles.

Stickers (bit easier to clean up)
Books
Puzzles
Cars making your duvet mountains etc
TV,
Songs
Stories with puppets
Hide smaller toys around room / bed and get him to find

Can't think of any more

lekkerkroketje · 11/04/2019 13:48

Magnets on the radiator
Simple sewing e.g. make a sock puppet
Snap

DS3 is fascinated by my jewellery box and whilst I was feeling rubbish when pregnant recently he played happily on the bed with me, getting himself styled up. Also recommend thorough games of hairdressers/barbers, doctors and nurses, and stickers in any form.

Hide and seek? He hides in the room and you call out "Are you behind the curtains?" "Are you under the bed?" Might be short lived...

Animal charades. He acts out an animal and you have to guess what he is being. If he can't think of an animal, find a set of cards with animals, or a book and get him to take it just out of the room to choose one.

Any pretend game where you can play a stationary role.
Cafes - he can be the waiter, running back and forth and the chef. You keep ordering different things and then give him your feedback. Be a very complainy customer.
Doctors - you be the patient, he takes your temperature, puts on plasters, wraps you in bandages, puts medicine on a "cut" on your leg, etc. Or be a broken robot that he needs to fix as the engineer.
Trains/planes - he can be the driver or pilot, describing where he is driving or flying to, and also the ticket collector, and the person with the trolley who comes along selling refreshments.

Get him to do a puppet show with soft toys which you can watch from bed. You could even make something like sock puppets first.

Travel versions of simple board games - they are often magnetic. If he's not likely to swallow the magnets. Later you can use them in the car with both DC.

Get some photo books made up of family photos or him when he was a baby and go through those together.

Loads of good ideas already! Some others - Free things:
Making up stories together, you set up an opening and he fills in the next bit and you go again etc.
Bring up a couple of different toys each day for a bit of rotation
Watch TV together, discuss what's happening, things like Alphablocks on CBeebies
Educational apps on tablet for shapes/numbers/colours
Google simple origami ideas (no mess)

Things to purchase (budget permitting!):
Magic colouring books, crayola do them (no mess)
Puzzles
Orchard Games, my kids love these and are educational
Get some toy food, pots and pans and play cafes (you may already have these)
A CBeebies magazine or similar weekly

I would try and portion up your day for a bit of routine and to mix up activities. If you can manage one session out of bed in the morning and afternoon, a TV session morning and afternoon so you can rest etc.

Hope you're feeling better soon and congratulations! Flowers

How about colouring books. Making up fantasy stories. Movie time. Finding websites online with educational games. Teaching him a few words in a different language (might be a bit bored with that).

Dobinette · 11/04/2019 14:37

My 3yr old loves this game.

Please can you tell me some activities I can do from bed with my almost 3 year old?
HollowTalk · 11/04/2019 16:50

Can he play games like Snap and Pairs?

Why not write all your ideas onto pieces of paper and then put them into a jar - he gets to pick out one - of course you have controlled what's written on the paper!

UnalliterativeGeorge · 11/04/2019 16:54

My 3yo is obsessed with ludo type games at the minute

Yellowcar2 · 11/04/2019 16:58

dobinette my kids adore that game.
My DD 2 loves threading beads or those special card / wooden shapes that have holes in
