For not going to the hospital (hcg levels)

Pregnant on the coil, most likely miscarried. Bled a lot last week, now down to light spotting, lots of pain last week, none now. Strong test Monday, very faint tests today and yesterday.

I had my hcg levels done Monday and was told to come in for re test Thursday (no appointment you just drop in) but I couldn't reasonably get in today, school holidays etc etc, I was going to go in tomorrow instead. Receptionist said they need to see me 48 hours later to see if my levels have halved or doubled and they don't know what they do after 72 hours. She's said I may have to test tomorrow and go again 48 hours later?!

Am I incorrect for thinking my levels will either be lower (no pregnancy) or higher (pregnancy) tomorrow? I understand the need for accuracy if monitoring a potentially viable pregnancy but it's very unlikely mine is viable for all the reasons I state above so seems pedantic. The hospital is not local and I feel like I've been told off!

I had very similar symptoms to you. Also had the mirena coil in.
My hcg levels kept rising. Turn out the pregnancy was ectopic. You are at a much higher risk on an ectopic if you fall pregnant with the coil in.
My ectopic rupture, I only survived because I was in hospital as it cause massive internal bleeding. I lost my Fallopian tube and ovary but it could have been much worse

Yes, the risk of an ectopic is higher with the coil. When I had an ectopic I bled heavily at 5 weeks pregnant and was sure I'd had a straightforward miscarriage. Only the slow-rising hcg gave any indication that it hadn't been a miscarriage and that something else was going on. My ectopic ruptured while I was in the hospital for a scan to try to locate the pregnancy. Like the pp I had emergency surgery and lost a tube. I definitely think it's worth confirming whether the hcg is dropping or not.

Thank you both. Sorry for what you've been through. My mum is insisting on driving me to the hospital today so I guess that's that!

I'm going today anyway, but surely a strong test followed by 2 weak tests 2 days later shows hcg is dropping not rising? I mean for my own peace of mind, I know the hospital won't be guided by that.

I don’t know anything about hcg levels, but a colleagues sister died from an ectopic pregnancy that wasn’t caught in time, for that reason alone I’m saying go now if you can.
