We live in a downstairs flat and I think I may of disturbed my neighbours and am feeling very embarrassed.
I heard 3 loud knocks from upstairs and realised. Should I apologise in the morning

Clearing the air with an apology sounds a good plan. Don’t worry!

Friedspamfritters · 11/04/2019 07:10

I would just say sorry you didn't realise how much the noise travels and leave it at that. I hate flats with rubbish sound insulation!

HoraceCope · 11/04/2019 07:24

came on here to be nosey only to find you had been noisy.

kateandme · 11/04/2019 07:43

going agasint the grain here but its 3am or whatever am you can talk in your own house!

Worzilgummidge · 11/04/2019 07:56

I think I may have a naturally loud voice.
God I hope they have never heard any other activity. Blush

I would shut myself away forever if they heard that.

Maybe the noise insulation is crap because I do hear them moving about, sliding wardrobe doors, telephone, talking although not at night sometimes I have heard loud bangs that seem like they are in my flat and have made me jump.

Glad you’re going to apologise 👍🏻 Flat living really does mean being tuned in to being a considerate thoughtful person and staying quiet after a reasonable hour.

I’ve had inconsiderate noisy neighbours and you just hate them with every fibre of your being - bee uses they don’t give a shit about anyone else.

I have quietly loved and adored good, thoughtful neighbours.

Aprillygirl · 11/04/2019 08:41

You sound like a nice and decent neighbour Worzil. As others have advised, apologise and explain that you weren't aware that you were being so loud, and tell them that you are planning on having raucous sex at around midnight on the weekend and they might wanna get themselves some earplugs for that! Wink

It depends how loud you are and if you’re disturbing your neighbours. If you are, then you’re too loud.

Living in a flat sucks, last one I lived in the people in the flat below us liked to have amphetamine fuelled karaoke parties - I knew their favourite song off by heart as it was so loud I could hear every single word like it was playing in my flat.

Apologise and put some rugs down to add a little sound-proofing.

Worzilgummidge · 11/04/2019 10:56

I went and apologised and they where very nice about it said it is one of the unfortunate things about flat living.

Keep yer trap shut at 3am in future - I would be FUMIN with yeh!!!

AlessandroVasectomi · 11/04/2019 11:07

I am heartened that you wanted to do the decent thing and apologise. So many people these days become aggressive when asked to keep the noise down/ keep their children under control/ remove their bags from unoccupied seats in trains and buses or when they make a mistake when driving etc etc. There seems to be a refusal to admit that they could in any way be in the wrong. You, on the other hand, are perfectly aware that you might be acting slightly inconsiderately to others. You’d be more than welcome to live under, beside or above us, you sound like ideal neighbours.

Worzilgummidge · 11/04/2019 12:33

Thanks Alesso

I deal with tenancy disputes and I reckon 90% could be dealt with by talking to each other. They are more likely to be a little forgiving now and you are more likely to watch the noise levels.

Good all around.
