Physical health suddenly deteriorating...possible causes?

I will be seeing my GP on Friday, I'm just looking for some possibles to bring up with her in case I've missed something.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a good few years back, had issues with pain and exhaustion but I was able to manage my symptoms reasonably well and lived a very busy, active life. However, two incidents that happened just before and after Christmas have sent me rapidly downhill. The first was having to be rushed to hospital with chest and head pains (turned out to be an ear infection) and the second was having spasms that usually only ran across my back and down my left leg run down both legs and my back. I couldn't walk and had to rent a wheelchair for two weeks just to get around.

Since then, I've quit my job and went into a sort of 'recovery' period where I did some gentle exercise and physiotherapy while having tests done to rule out Osteoarthritis, Lyme disease and Lupus. When I see my doctor I'm going to ask for a referral for an MRI to rule out Multiple Sclerosis or other nerve disorders.

My biggest issue right now is that I have almost no energy. Everything is a struggle, even the most basic things like cooking or doing my hair. It's like wading through mud. I'm having lots of faint and dizzy spells too, and I can't really enjoy the things I usually like because I'm so wiped out afterwards. I mopped the floors one evening and could barely walk for the next two days. I am on the same medication I was prescribed for fibromyalgia but it's not doing anything for me.

Any ideas? I'm willing to listen to any opinions at this point.

You could be me, right down to the eye problems and dropping stuff randomly. Do you have tingling and muscles twitches to go with it? My mri was clear so I remain undiagnosed. The doctors say they know what I’ve got is not progressive, but I’m not as well as I was 12 years ago so I treat that with a pinch of salt. Hope you get some answers.

It's definitely worth an ask. I thought I'd had pretty extensive blood work done over the years due to anaemia, thyroid issues, ferritin stores etc. And yet it was only 2 yrs ago b12 was spotted. They t be to try you on supplements first and then retest your levels to see if you have been able to hold onto it. If you haven't absorbed it then chances are you need the injections instead. I felt truly awful before starting.

It can active quite serious, persistently low levels so worth asking about.

I'm always reluctant to post anything on threads like this, because you are better to stick to the advice of medical professionals.

But my mum has MS and some of the symptoms you are describing are similar. It's worth mentioning, but since the range of symptoms are so broad and are the same as various other conditions, it's not a certainty

I hope your tests go well and whatever the results you get a diagnosis and effective treatment Flowers

Have you been taking any supplements with b12 in? If so it can give you a false high result. Get a print out of results so you can see where in/out of the range you are. If needed there are some very good b12 support groups on Facebook. b12d is debilitating and doctors don't seem to understand it, hence the need for support groups.

My cousin has had Fibromyalgia for years and it has got progressively worse. She did have ME too years ago and spent 2 years in bed. She also has Rheumatoid Arthritis and an unstable thyroid problem (had it removed) and swings between under and over-active. So, plenty of auto-immune diseases.

She has started to feel better since having high doses of vitamin B12 and vitamin D3 but otherwise, like you, if she does a fairly simple thing, she is then out of action and in greater pain for days. She can't wash her own hair, can barely turn her head, can only use laptop and phone for short periods. She stumbles a lot and has dry eyes, mouth etc.

Don't get carried away thinking you have MS. It could be Fibromyalgia getting worse or a flare-up. Your eyes could actually be Sjogrens syndrome which is auto-immune. (Anyone with an auto-immune disease can tend to have others).

Late reply but the jerks you mention I have. It's when I am anxious and my body goes in fight or fight, subconsciously almost. Your senses are hightened and you are you 'switched on' it's anxiety related.
