Neighbours wind chimes

I love sitting in my garden listening to the birds and "white noise" but my neighbour has put up wind chimes both tinkling ones and on that sounds like horsed hooves! I suffer from migraine and high pitched noises affect me. I am almost dreading the warmer nights when I need my bedroom window open. My neighbour is not an easy lady to speak to. Help!

The flashing from those stupid CD things can be really annoying.

And wind chimes holy shit I can't understand why anyone doesn't see how having these is selfish. It might be a sound you enjoy, that's fine, but it doesn't mean your neighbours will so why are you forcing them to have to listen to it?

Windchimes make me rage! Same goes for bingo drums and the plinky plonky music in a spa. I wouldn’t be able to go in the garden if any of our neighbours had windchimes.

Thingsthatgo · 10/04/2019 15:57

*bongo drums obviously!

PotterHead1985 · 10/04/2019 16:45

@TheQueef aww that's lovely. If you were my neighbour and I mentioned the chimes and you told me the reason for them I would be totally accepting of this. I'd probably ask to pet the doggy and if there was anything I could buy for the little pet to make life easier.

(I had a dog who went deaf and blind in her old age).

Figmentofmyimagination · 10/04/2019 16:56

furious I think people usually hang up CDs to deter seed- and seedling-eating birds.

CabbageHippy · 10/04/2019 16:59

I love mine, they are in a sheltered spot & don't chime often but they weirdly chime whenever I say hello to DCat who is buried underneath them

Honeyroar · 10/04/2019 17:02

We live very rurally, very few neighbour's, no streetlights, no noise. 100yds away there is an outward bounds type school. It currently has a group of drummers staying there for the week. They drum from 9 am to 7pm, with occasional pauses. Apparently they can't possibly close the windows because they get too hot. I seriously want to bomb the place! I hate wind chimes ordinarily, but I'd gladly swop the drummers for chimes right now!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/04/2019 17:05

Wind chimes are anti social

Raspberry10 · 10/04/2019 17:09

They’d have to have an accident in the middle of the night, like my Mum’s did when I lived at home Grin They really are the worst!

EjectorCrab · 10/04/2019 17:09

I bloody hate wind chimes. Our neighbours have them and they drive me nuts. They’ve also got an annoying loud whirring hot tub. Sadly just have to put up with it, our gardens back on to each other.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 10/04/2019 17:10

Our neighbour out the back got tinkly ones a couple of summers ago. Drove me fucking loopy

I kept wanting to take the scissors to them, and leave them in a little passive aggressive pile on their back door step....fortunately they kept tangling up in the wind and they took them down eventually.

Beamur · 10/04/2019 17:14

If you have near neighbours anything that makes a noise - especially a random tuneless clonking is deeply anti social. I hate wind chimes.

notacooldad · 10/04/2019 17:16

I sellotaped my old neighbours ones together when they went on holiday, they never realised!

Nice to see so much approval of trespass and vandalism! If they dislike something innocuous in your garden I assume that they have carte blanche to enter your property and adjust it to their liking!

Come on! It was sellotape that can be taken off. The neighbours aren't going to hear the wind chime when they are away but the poster is left with the insufferable noise. They could restore the chimes with no damage in seconds if they wanted to. It's not like they were smashed to pieces.

SunnySofa · 10/04/2019 17:19

I had the same problem and was going to write a note to our neighbours. But mumsnet told me to go round in person and I was very very brave and did it. Although they are awkward neighbours they took them done and the difference has been amazing. Go and have a word!

MolyHolyGuacamole · 10/04/2019 17:19

Am I the only one who thinks posts like these are ridiculous? 'I live in a community with people but don't like living in a community with people' is what they're essentially saying.

Children cry, dogs bark, car engines make a noise as they drive by. This is all part of community living.

Perhaps a cottage in the middle of the woods would be better suited to some?

MolyHolyGuacamole · 10/04/2019 17:21

And before anyone jumps down my throat wins chimes hardly make that much noise. Some places have loud church bells that go 4 times an hour!

Squarepeg39 · 10/04/2019 17:31

Bollocks! There’s some right bastards close to me. I’ve asked the mad bat to take them down but no joy.

I dream of going to pull my bedroom curtains one dark and stormy night only to see her impailed on her lawn by one of the spikes. I’d go to sleep happy in the knowledge she wouldn’t last the night out there.

Topseyt · 10/04/2019 17:44

I like wind chimes. Many neighbours have them round here. I would barely even notice the sound if I am honest.

I think there are far worse and more antisocial noises, such as very loud music, revving cars and motorcycles etc.

I have wind chimes myself, though mine are hung on the inside of the door, so they only sound if the door is opened and it is a breezy day.

Squarepeg39 · 10/04/2019 17:49

Yes, there definitely are far worse and more antisocial noises, however that’s no excuse.

Queenofmyownheart · 10/04/2019 17:56

I hate wind chimes drives me bloody insane. When I had a new fountain installed on my pond I asked the neighbours if it bothered them but they said they liked it. Reckon everyone should have the same attitude whether t be fountains or wind chimes 😂😂😂

Celebelly · 10/04/2019 17:56

Wind chimes are the work of the devil.

HeathRobinson · 10/04/2019 17:56

I love wind chimes, but I hang mine indoors.

I wonder how many wind chime haters play music in the garden? I think that's far worse, along with yappy dogs.

BloodyDisgrace · 10/04/2019 18:01

Please calm down if you can. It's not a sound of an animal/child dying in agony. It's not a sound of a bomb detonating. You are in your garden. You are lucky to have a garden. Get the head phones with some relaxing muzak if you must. Get a glass of vino. Life can get much much worse. It's good so far.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 10/04/2019 18:13

@Squarepeg39 your response has made me laugh 😂 I now have a vision clear in my head
