To walk Brighton 10k if needs be

I've been so ill since Friday. Not actual tonsilitis or flu but every part of me hurts, really sore throat, banging head, cough, no sleep, diahorrea etc.

I've been training to run Brighton 10k this weekend. I booked it after watching the marathon there the last 2 years, I just loved the atmosphere etc and whilst I was certain I wouldn't be able to run a marathon, I've now got myself to about a 1hr 9 10k - which I wanted to aim for sub 1hr in Brighton.

Thing is - this illness has completely floored me - I can not see how I'll be totally recovered by Sunday, I pray I'm feeling better but putting one foot in front of the other is hard at the moment.

Anyway - if I was feeling ok, do you think you're allowed to walk it? That's my aibu - do people walk these things? Tbf at the moment I can't walk to the toilet without crying so I'm not sure I'll be recovered at all, even to do that but I can hope.

Worst case I go be ill in a hotel room for the weekend I guess - or anyone got any tips for miraculous recovery?

See how feel nearer the time. In the meantime check the website for any cut off time. Don't endanger your own health (and make work for the volunteers) by running hard for an hour if you feel unwell. If you feel partially recovered, you may be ok to walk or even walk and jog.

Check the cut off times and policy. My local 10k allows 1:30 which is doable at a brisk walk or run/ walk intervals. They allow 45 mins for 5k and people beyond that get diverted on to paths so roads can be opened. Looking at the results there's a good cluster coming in at 1:30 ish and the next few minutes then a few up to a few minutes off 2hrs. The race starts with an out and back dog leg and there are people at the back looking tired and walking slowly after 1km- whether they complete it or not, I don't know.

The 2018 results should give you a better idea.

I was ill days before my first HM, off work on the Wednesday which is unusual for me. I'd trained for months, I'd been fundraising. I went and did it. I was suffering by mile 10 so reduced the impact to a brisk walk, but was walking faster than some runners. I completed in a respectable 2:32 for a first attempt and definitely wasn't on full power. The recovery was hard that week, especially the first few days, probably more than I'd felt it if I'd been on better form.

Running 10k in 1hr- 1:10 is a decent start which allows time to relax the pace.

If you're ill don't do it. It's a 10k run not walking on the moon. Run 10k another dsy when you are better
Yup

Oh god Sunday is way off. You'll be ok by then probably.
