Holiday, Passport, Brexit. What would you do?

Right, I’m a world leader in procrastination and leaving everything to the last minute.

Going to Spain on Saturday the 13th April, my passport expires in July. If we do leave the eu on Friday the 12th, it’s suggested we’d need a minimum of 6 months remaining on any passport, and I could imagine passport control offices across eu countries being told to enforce this particularly for the first week to make an example.

I can apply for an urgent passport but today is the cut off for that logistically (at an expense of £177 which I could really do without pre holidays!) and there won’t be a consensus on the brexit decision until Wednesdays summit.

Basically, what would you do? I really don’t think brexit will go ahead on Friday, but Sod’s law and all of that.

this is how I approach all aspects of my life

🥂 Me too. I'd renew it now, though. Just in case.

Having a read on the official gov website about travel to Spain, if we leave with a deal on Friday (not likely) it states:

*If the UK leaves with a deal, travel to the EU will remain the same as now until at least 31 December 2020. You will not need to apply for a visa to travel or work in the EU during this time.

If the UK leaves the EU without a deal, the rules for travelling or working in Europe will change.*

So basically, it’s only if Friday happens with no deal that there’s a chance of a risk. I wonder what odds you’d get for that happening?

Problem is I think opinions will be divided.

Risk averse people like me will say renew today, don't take a chance because you won't know until Friday that it's ok (if we get an extension to Brexit)

People happy to take a chance will tell you that it will likely be ok.

None of us will know who is right until we hear if there is an extension or not.

Straw poll?
Going to Spain I'd risk it and wouldn't renew.
